Is Astrologist.com free?

Yes. Astrologist.com's own birth chart calculator, compatibility tool, learning articles and AI chat are currently free to use. There is no paid subscription or paid birth chart report. Some pages may link to third-party services, which can have their own charges. Chat has usage limits so the service stays available for everyone.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed for the free birth chart, the compatibility tool or the learning articles. You can also chat with the AI astrologer for a few messages as a guest. A free account gives you a higher chat limit.

What do I need to enter for my birth chart?

Your date of birth, place of birth and, if you know it, your time of birth. The place is used to find the coordinates and the local time zone at the moment you were born, including any daylight saving time in effect.

Do I need my exact birth time?

No, but it helps. Your Rising sign (Ascendant) and the houses change quickly through the day, so they can only be calculated from a known birth time. Your Sun sign and most planetary signs can still be calculated from the date and place alone.

What happens if I don't know my birth time?

You can leave the time blank or mark it as unknown. Your chart will then show no Rising sign and no houses rather than guessing them. Most planetary positions can still be calculated for that date. Because the Moon moves relatively quickly, we tell you if its sign is uncertain and show the possible signs when necessary.

Which astrology system does Astrologist.com use?

We use modern Western astrology with the Tropical zodiac. Houses are calculated with the Placidus system; for births above 66° latitude north or south, where Placidus becomes unreliable, we use Equal houses from the Ascendant and say so in your chart. The Lunar Nodes use the Mean Node, and we work with five major aspects: conjunction (8° orb), sextile (6°), square (8°), trine (8°) and opposition (8°). How do you handle sign rulers?

We list modern rulers first and keep the traditional rulers alongside them: Scorpio is ruled by Pluto (traditionally Mars), Aquarius by Uranus (traditionally Saturn) and Pisces by Neptune (traditionally Jupiter). We also treat signs and houses as separate parts of the chart, so a sign is not described as literally ruling a house.

Why is my chart different from another website?

Astrology sites make different choices, and those choices can change the result. Common differences are the zodiac system, the house system, Mean versus True Node, the aspect orbs used, and the birth time and place entered. Even a small difference in birth time shifts the Ascendant and house cusps, and near a sign boundary it can also change the Rising sign. How accurate are the calculations?

Planetary positions are calculated from established astronomical models, including VSOP87B through the astronomia library and Lowell Observatory orbital data for Chiron, and we test the calculations against reference ephemeris values. The results are only as accurate as the birth details you enter, especially the birth time. You can read more on our Astronomy Data Sources page.

Is astrology scientifically proven?

No. The positions in your chart are astronomical calculations, but astrological interpretation is a symbolic and reflective practice, not a proven science. We describe tendencies and possible meanings rather than fixed facts or predictions, so readings are best used for reflection rather than as certainties.

What can I ask the AI astrologer?

You can ask about your chart in plain language: personality, relationships, work, patterns you notice in your life, or what a particular placement may mean. The answers are based on your calculated chart and what you tell the AI in the conversation. You don't need to know any astrology terms to start.

Does the AI know things about me that I haven't told it?

The AI astrologer bases its answers on your calculated chart and what you share in the conversation. It is instructed not to claim hidden knowledge about your life or invent personal facts that aren't supported by that information.

Do you calculate transits?

Not at the moment. We publish educational articles about transits, but the calculator does not compute current or future transits, and the AI is not given current planetary positions. Personalized readings are based on your birth chart.

Do you calculate Black Moon Lilith?

No. We publish educational articles about Black Moon Lilith, but Lilith is not part of the calculator, so it does not appear in your chart. If you already know your Lilith placement from another source, the articles explain how it is usually interpreted.

How does the compatibility tool work?

It compares the Sun, Moon and Rising signs of two people and gives a sign-level estimate of how those placements tend to interact. Rising signs are only included when the necessary birth times are known. It is not full synastry: it does not calculate aspects between the two charts or house overlays, so treat the score as a starting point for reflection rather than a verdict on a relationship.

How many questions can I ask?

Current limits: guests can ask up to 5 questions within a 24-hour period, and signed-in users can ask up to 20 questions within a 24-hour period. There is also an hourly abuse-prevention limit to help keep the service available for everyone. These limits may change over time.

What happens to my data?

Your birth details are used to calculate your chart. For chat, your birth details, chart and messages are sent to OpenAI to generate the response; for birth-chart and compatibility interpretations, only the calculated sign-level information and compatibility context needed for those interpretations is sent. We don't keep your chat conversations in our database, and your latest birth details and chart are saved in your own browser so you don't have to re-enter them. If you create an account, we store your email address, a securely hashed password and basic account activity, and we use Resend to send account emails. We use Google Analytics for aggregated usage statistics. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

There is currently no delete button in your account settings. You can request deletion of your account and personal data by contacting support@astrologist.com, subject to any applicable legal retention requirements.

Can I use readings for medical, legal, financial or mental health decisions?

Please don't. Astrology readings on this site are for reflection and entertainment and are not professional advice. For health, legal, financial or psychological questions, talk to a qualified professional.
