Moon Sextile Venus: Warmth You Can Choose to Use

Moon sextile Venus means your Moon and Venus were between 54° and 66° apart at birth. It's generally read as a friendly link between what you need in order to feel safe and what you enjoy, value and find lovely. Comfort and affection can support each other here. The catch, as with any sextile, is that the support tends to show up when you reach for it rather than all by itself.

On a chart this shows up in about one birth in fifteen: 6.7% of days between 1900 and 2099 had the Moon and Venus in sextile at noon.

What it may describe

Care that feels pleasant to give. Looking after people, hosting, cooking or making a space comfortable may feel more like pleasure than duty.

An easy emotional climate in friendships. You might find it fairly simple to be warm with people without needing deep intimacy straight away. Friendly connection itself can be soothing.

Mood lifted by beauty. Music, a walk somewhere pretty, a well-made meal: small Venus pleasures may help you settle when feelings run high.

Gentle social instincts. Picking up on what would make someone feel welcome, and acting on it, can come naturally.

The sextile, the trine and the conjunction

These three can sound alike, so it helps to separate them.

In the Moon-Venus conjunction, feeling safe and feeling loved can become a single need. The trine is often described as warmth that flows with no effort at all. The sextile is lighter and more practical. It offers an opening, and the person decides whether to walk through it. Someone with the sextile might be very good at creating comfort for others when they set their mind to it, and still forget to do it for themselves.

Where it can fall short

Easy aspects can make it tempting to avoid discomfort. With this one, the risk is reaching for something pleasant whenever a hard feeling turns up, rather than sitting with the feeling. Another pattern is keeping relationships comfortable at the cost of depth. Neither is a flaw built into the aspect; they're simply the directions an easy link drifts in when it isn't used consciously.

The growth path is to treat the gift as a tool. Use the warmth deliberately when a situation is hard, not only when it's already pleasant.

The Moon moves fast, so birth time counts

Venus moves at most about 1.3° a day. The Moon covered between 11.3° and 15.8° a day in our 1900 to 2099 checks, so it is the Moon that decides whether this aspect is present. With a 6° orb, the window can be shorter than a single day.

An example, born in London on 27 November 1991:

  • 00:30: Moon at 13°06' Leo, Venus at 19°22' Libra, 66.3° apart. Just outside the sextile.
  • 12:00: Moon at 19°54' Leo, Venus at 19°54' Libra. Exact.
  • 23:30: Moon at 26°40' Leo, Venus at 20°27' Libra, 53.8° apart. Outside again.

So a person born at noon that day has the aspect, and a person born just after midnight does not. This is why the free birth chart leaves Moon aspect lines off the wheel when the birth time is unknown. If that's your situation, the guide to the Moon sign without a birth time explains what can and can't be said.

Never at a Full Moon

Venus stays within about 47° of the Sun, so the Moon's distance from Venus also limits its distance from the Sun. On every sextile day in our sample, the Moon was between about 7° and 113° from the Sun. In other words, Moon sextile Venus can happen anywhere from a thin crescent through the quarter Moons and a little beyond, but never at or near a Full Moon. That's an astronomical fact rather than an interpretation, but it does mean this aspect never coincides with the Sun-Moon opposition described in Sun opposite Moon.

Checking your chart

With a known birth time, look on the wheel for a blue dashed line between ☽ and ♀. Confirm it in the planet table: add up the degrees between the two, counting 30° for each full sign, and check that the gap is between 54° and 66°.
