Sun Conjunct Venus: Warmth, Values and the Wish to Be Liked
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Sun conjunct Venus means Venus was within 8° of the Sun at your birth. Astrologers usually read it as affection, taste and personal values sitting right next to your sense of who you are. Many people with it come across as warm or easy to be around, and many care a great deal about being liked. Both can be true at once, and the second is where most of the interesting work lies.
It's also the only major aspect the Sun and Venus can form. Venus never gets more than about 47° from the Sun as seen from Earth, so a natal Sun square Venus or Sun opposite Venus simply doesn't occur. The inner-planet aspect guide explains the geometry.
What it may describe
Identity bound up with relating. Your sense of self may sharpen in company, through friendship, partnership or collaboration. Being in good connection with people can feel like being yourself.
A visible sense of taste. Style, beauty, music, food, the look of a room: Venus topics often matter to people with this conjunction, and others may notice their eye for them.
Values worn openly. What you find fair, pleasant or worth paying for is close to the surface. Your preferences can be part of how people recognise you.
Charm as a default setting. Diplomacy may come easily. Conflict may feel more costly to you than it does to others.
How this looks depends heavily on the sign. Sun and Venus together in Aries can be affectionate and blunt at the same time. In Taurus or Libra, Venus is in a sign it rules, which tends to make Venus themes louder. In Capricorn the warmth may be real but slower to show, offered through reliability rather than display.
The people-pleasing trap
The shadow of this aspect is approval. When your sense of self and your wish for harmony are fused, disapproval can feel like a threat to identity. That can lead to softening opinions to keep the peace, saying yes to avoid friction, or building a self-image around being pleasant.
None of this is fixed. It's a tendency to watch for, and naming it is often half the work.
The growth edge
The evolutionary task of a Sun-Venus conjunction is often described as learning self-worth that doesn't depend on applause. In practice that might mean treating charm and taste as skills you choose to use, rather than as the price of belonging. It might mean letting a relationship survive a disagreement. People who make that shift tend to keep the warmth and lose the anxiety around it.
Two kinds of conjunction
Venus meets the Sun in two very different ways. Most of the time it passes behind the Sun, on the far side of its orbit, moving direct. Less often it passes between Earth and the Sun, and then it is retrograde.
The difference shows up in how long the windows last. Checking every day from 1900 to 2099 with the calculator's own planetary routines:
- Far-side conjunctions, with Venus direct, kept Venus within 8° of the Sun for about two months at a time (typically around 62 days).
- Near-side conjunctions, with Venus retrograde, lasted only 9 to 11 days.
Overall, Venus was conjunct the Sun on 12.3% of days, and retrograde on 14.0% of those conjunction days.
A neat pair of examples, both at noon in London: on 3 April 1985 the Sun was at 13°38' Aries and Venus at 14°22' Aries, retrograde. On 3 April 2005 the Sun was at 13°47' Aries and Venus at 14°37' Aries, direct. Same date, almost the same degrees, different motion. Some astrologers read the retrograde version as more inward, with values that get revised over time; Venus retrograde in the natal chart covers that reading and its limits.
Spotting it on your chart
Use the planet table under the wheel on your free birth chart. Find ☉ and ♀, convert both to degrees within the zodiac if they're in different signs, and check whether they are 8° apart or less. About 13% of the conjunction days we checked had the Sun and Venus in neighbouring signs, so don't rule it out just because the signs differ. On the wheel the amber line between the two glyphs is short and easy to overlook.
Birth time rarely decides this one. The Sun-Venus distance changed by at most about 1.6° in a day across the sample, so the time only matters if the gap sits right around 8°.
