Venus-Venus Synastry: Shared Tastes, Affection and Values by Degree

Updated October 21, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial

← Back to Compatibility

A Venus-Venus contact links the two people's Venus positions by a major aspect. Venus is read as taste, pleasure, the way someone shows affection and what they value enough to spend time and money on. Comparing two Venuses, astrologers look at how two sets of preferences sit together: what both enjoy without discussion, where tastes differ, and how each person likes affection to be shown. It describes possible common ground and friction points. It does not predict attraction, faithfulness or how long two people stay together.

Educational guide: Astrologist.com does not currently calculate synastry, inter-chart aspects, house overlays or composite charts. The compatibility tool provides a sign-level estimate based on the Sun, Moon and Rising signs; known birth times are required for that tool. The contacts discussed here must be identified separately from the two charts' actual positions.

One pair, one check

Venus-Venus has a single check. Both planets are Venus, so measuring from either person's Venus gives the same separation. "A's Venus to B's Venus" and "B's Venus to A's Venus" are one contact named twice, not two contacts. Mixed pairs such as Sun-Venus or Venus-Mars are different: there, each direction uses different planets and is checked separately.

Measured contacts, not Venus sign compatibility

Venus compatibility compares Venus signs: their elements, their pace and what each sign tends to enjoy. That is a broad, sign-level picture. This page is about something narrower: whether the two Venus longitudes form a conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition within orb. The two approaches often agree, but a Venus in the last degrees of one sign and a Venus early in another can form an aspect the signs would not suggest, as the example below shows.

A Venus-Venus contact is also not a diagnosis or a type. Descriptions of how someone likes to give and receive affection are interpretive themes. They are not a validated "love language" classification, and no Venus aspect tells you which gestures will actually reach another person. Asking does that better.

Reading the five aspects

  • Conjunction. Similar tastes and a similar way of showing affection. Two people may enjoy the same kind of evening, music or surroundings without negotiating. Similar habits can also mean neither brings anything new.
  • Sextile. Compatible preferences that complement each other: one may enjoy planning and the other enjoy being surprised, or each may introduce the other to something they come to like.
  • Square. Tastes and priorities can clash: how to spend money, how much time to spend with others, what counts as a treat. Each may show affection in a form the other barely notices. Astrologers read this as a difference to name, not as a lack of care.
  • Trine. Preferences tend to fit easily, often with a shared sense of what makes life pleasant. The ease can hide differences that only come up under strain.
  • Opposition. Each person's tastes may stand for what the other lacks or resists. That can widen both people's world or turn into repeated disagreements about how to live.

A worked example: a sextile the signs would call a square

Two example charts, calculated with the site's natal routines:

  • Person G: 23 November 1994, 23:50, London. Venus 2°28' Scorpio. Greenwich Mean Time applied, so the birth was at 23:50 UT.
  • Person H: 23 July 1997, 04:50, Glasgow. Venus 29°31' Leo. British Summer Time applied, so the birth was at 03:50 UT.

G's Venus at 2°28' Scorpio is 212°28' of longitude; H's Venus at 29°31' Leo is 149°31'. The gap is 62°57', a sextile 2°57' from exact.

By sign, this pair shows a Leo Venus and a Scorpio Venus. Leo and Scorpio are three signs apart, a pairing usually described as square by sign. Measured by degree, the two Venuses form a sextile instead, because H's Venus sits at the very end of Leo and G's at the start of Scorpio. An astrologer reading this pair might note both layers: Leo's liking for warmth and open appreciation beside Scorpio's preference for depth and privacy, joined by an easy contact that suggests the two can enjoy each other's tastes with a little effort.

Birth time, a sign change and a station

In the sample of 6,000 birth dates used for these guides, Venus never moved more than 1.30° in a local day, so a Venus-Venus contact is often settled by the two birth dates. This pair shows why that is checked rather than assumed. Every one of the 1,440 whole-minute times the calculator accepts was run for each date:

  • H's Venus changed sign during the day. On 23 July 1997 in Glasgow it ran from 29°16' Leo at 00:00 to 0°29' Virgo at 23:59, entering Virgo at about 14:11. Without H's birth time, H's Venus sign would be uncertain, Leo or Virgo, and a sign-based reading would change with it: Virgo and Scorpio are usually called sextile by sign. The site's ordinary unknown-time output does not flag this for Venus; it applies the possible-sign check to the Moon only.
  • G's Venus turned direct during the day. On 23 November 1994 in London it was retrograde until about 16:57 and direct afterwards, so its turning point fell inside the day rather than at 00:00 or 23:59. Around the station it barely moved, between 2°28' and 2°29' Scorpio.

Pairing every minute of G's date with every minute of H's date, 2,073,600 combinations, the separation stayed between 61°59' and 63°13'. That is a sextile at every combination, well inside the 6° orb. So the contact holds even with both birth times unknown, while the Venus sign of one person does not. The sign was uncertain; the contact was not.

That is a result for this pair, not a rule. Had the separation sat within a degree or so of an orb edge, each person's Venus range over the actual birth date would decide it, including any station inside the day. Venus retrograde in the natal chart covers stations on the natal side.

Questions to talk through

  • What does a good free day look like to each of you, and how much do the two pictures overlap?
  • How does each of you show that you care, and which gestures from the other do you actually notice?
  • Where do your spending or comfort priorities differ, and how do you settle them now?
  • Is there something one of you introduced the other to that you now both enjoy?

The orb convention

The example uses 8° for the conjunction, square, trine and opposition and 6° for the sextile, inclusive at the edge. These are the orbs the Astrologist.com calculator uses inside a single natal chart; here they are only the convention for educational examples, not a synastry feature of the software. No applying or separating distinction and no Venus-specific orb are used. Other astrologers' orb sets would change which pairs count, but not how the separation is measured.

Next steps

Run the free birth chart separately for each person, note each Venus degree from the planet table, and measure the one Venus-Venus separation. The compatibility tool gives a separate sign-level estimate from the Sun, Moon and Rising signs and does not include Venus. For Venus against the other person's Sun, see Sun-Venus synastry; for the other same-planet comparison of everyday habits, see Mercury-Mercury synastry.
