Uranus Conjunct North Node: Change on the Unfamiliar Path
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
A birth chart has this contact when Uranus lies no more than 8° from the North Node. Since the South Node is always the exact opposite point, that Uranus is opposite the South Node too, and on the free chart you see one line to each Node. Nodal astrology treats the North Node as the less practised side of the axis, the way ahead that does not yet feel natural. Put Uranus on it and the usual reading is that progress comes through change: dropping a script, picking the unusual option, or acting on a flash of insight about where to go next.
One orbit of Uranus lasts about 84 years, while the Node circles backward in about 18.6 years, and the result is a meeting with any given Node roughly every 15.2 years; North Node and South Node meetings take turns about 7.6 years apart. A noon chart for every day of 1900 to 2099, 73,049 in all, put Uranus on the North Node on 3,266 days, about one date in 22 (4.5%), spread over 14 windows lasting 155 to 300 days. Five to ten months of births share each window, and they share Uranus's sign as well, so the line on its own describes a generation. The personal layer comes from the house holding Uranus and the Node, for which a birth time is needed, and from Uranus's aspects to the Sun, the Moon and the other personal planets.
How it is often read
Growth through change. A widely shared view is that the way forward opens after a clean break from what others expected, not through gradual accumulation, so progress may come in jumps with quiet stretches between them.
Independence as the lesson. Uranus stands for freedom and for questioning a group's assumptions. Some astrologers read its place on the North Node as an invitation to rely on one's own judgement in the matters of the North Node's sign, even if that looks odd to others.
Sudden turns. A frequent description is a way forward that shows itself in flashes: an unexpected offer, a chance meeting, a moment of clarity, followed by a period of catching up with what was seen.
Impatience with the familiar. With Uranus opposite the South Node, the easy habits of that sign may start to feel like a cage earlier than they would for most people. The work, in this reading, is to change them deliberately instead of walking out.
All of these are possible themes rather than predictions. Most astrologers rank Node contacts below planetary ones, and because a whole cohort shares this Uranus, its house and its ties to personal planets carry more of the individual story. The basics of the nodal axis are explained in what the North Node and South Node mean.
One meeting per window
Uranus is retrograde for about five months of every year, yet even then it never moved backward faster than about 0.044° a day in the sample, while the Mean Node always slid back by 0.052° to 0.054° a day. The gap between them therefore changes in one direction only: the Node passes Uranus once and moves on, and Uranus cannot turn and chase it. Every one of the 27 Uranus conjunction windows in the two centuries, at either Node, held exactly one exact meeting. Saturn behaves differently, and in 2019 it met the South Node three times in a single window, as Saturn conjunct South Node shows.
Short windows in eclipse season
With one pass per window, the length depends on how fast Uranus itself is moving when the Node goes by, and that depends on where the Sun is. Four of the 14 North Node windows, in 1931, 1961, 2007 and 2067, lasted only 155 to 169 days and contained no retrograde day at all. At each of those exact meetings the Sun stood 6° to 14° from the Node, so Uranus was close to its conjunction with the Sun, the part of its year when it moves forward fastest; on the four meeting dates it was covering 0.056° to 0.062° a day. A Sun that close to the Node also means an eclipse season, and each of the four windows held one lunar and one solar eclipse in NASA's tables.
The long windows came when the Sun was at least 40° from either Node at the meeting. Uranus was then near a station or moving backward, the gap closed slowly, and the window stretched to 293 to 300 days, enough to contain a whole retrograde season. On 16 October 2037, the exact meeting at 24°06' against 24°07' Cancer, Uranus was moving only 0.012° a day and the calculator has the Sun at 23°25' Libra, squaring both; that window runs from 24 July 2037 to 13 May 2038. Over all North Node conjunction dates Uranus was retrograde 36.1% of the time, against 41.2% of all dates.
The 2007 window shows the short kind. It ran from 2 January to 19 June 2007, with Uranus and the North Node both in Pisces and the exact meeting on 20 March at 15°31' against 15°30'. NASA lists a total lunar eclipse at 23:21 Universal Time on 3 March 2007 and a partial solar eclipse at 02:32 Universal Time on 19 March. At London noon on 19 March the calculator has Uranus at 15°28' Pisces, 0.09° from the North Node at 15°33', with the Sun at 28°30' Pisces. Uranus was within 1° of the Node only from 11 to 29 March. Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces and Jupiter its traditional ruler, and the nodal pairing is discussed in North Node in Virgo or Pisces.
2022 in Taurus, with Saturn at the bendings
The 2022 window was the long kind: 7 May 2022 to 23 February 2023, with the exact meeting on 26 July 2022 at 18°34' against 18°36' Taurus. Uranus turned retrograde on 25 August 2022 and direct on 23 January 2023 in the noon sample, so 151 days of the window had it moving backward. Saturn in Aquarius squared Uranus on 204 consecutive dates of the window, from 17 June 2022 to 6 January 2023, and squared the Nodes as well until the end of November (see Saturn square the Lunar Nodes).
NASA lists three eclipses inside the window: a total lunar eclipse on 16 May, a partial solar eclipse on 25 October and a total lunar eclipse on 8 November 2022 at 10:59 Universal Time. At London noon on 8 November the calculator places the Moon at 16°31' Taurus, 0.41° from a retrograde Uranus at 16°56', with the North Node at 13°02' Taurus and the Sun at 16°03' Scorpio opposite all three. Taurus is ruled by Venus. Scorpio has Pluto as its modern ruler and Mars as its traditional ruler. The Taurus-Scorpio axis covers that pairing.
1991 in Capricorn, with Neptune
The 1991 window ran from 3 June 1991 to 6 February 1992, with the exact meeting on 26 November 1991 at 11°41' against 11°40' Capricorn. Neptune, also in Capricorn, was within 8° of the North Node from 27 March 1991 to 18 January 1992, so on 230 dates, from the first day of the Uranus window to 18 January 1992, both planets were conjunct the North Node. On the meeting date the calculator has Neptune at 14°58' Capricorn, 3.3° from the Node. Neptune's own meeting with that Node came on 12 October 1991, before Uranus's, as Neptune or Pluto conjunct North Node explains. The window held five eclipses, among them the total solar eclipse of 11 July 1991 at 19:06 Universal Time; at London noon that day the Sun at 18°39' Cancer was 0.33° from the South Node and opposite both Uranus (11°32' Capricorn, retrograde) and Neptune (15°17' Capricorn). Capricorn's ruler is Saturn and Cancer's is the Moon; more on that axis in North Node in Cancer or Capricorn.
Aquarius: the ruler on the Node
Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius, and Saturn its traditional ruler. The window of 20 April 1915 to 6 February 1916, exact on 18 November 1915 at 12°02' against 12°03' Aquarius, put Uranus on an Aquarius North Node, in the sign it rules in modern astrology. NASA lists five eclipses inside it, the last a total solar eclipse on 3 February 1916. The only other Aquarius case in the sample comes in the window of 28 December 2082 to 18 August 2083, with the meeting on 12 March 2083. The Leo-Aquarius axis covers that pairing.
At the Uranus opposition
The free chart is a natal tool and does not work out transits, though one piece of timing can be read from the birth positions alone. In midlife transiting Uranus comes round to the point opposite natal Uranus, the Uranus opposition. With natal Uranus beside the natal North Node, that opposite point lies near the natal South Node, so the opposition also brings Uranus to the South Node side of the chart, and onto the Node's exact degree only when Uranus and the Node were very close at birth. Taking people born on each exact meeting date from 1900 to 2052, the first exact opposition fell between ages 39.5 and 43.9, the spread coming from Uranus's uneven speed through the signs in the intervening decades. The wider the natal orb, the further from the Node's degree this crossing falls.
Seeing it on your chart
The ♅ glyph sits next to N.Node, linked by a short amber line for the conjunction, and a dashed red line runs from ♅ across the wheel to S.Node. The positions table should show the two no more than 8° apart. Because 5.1% of the sampled conjunction dates had Uranus and the Node on opposite sides of a sign boundary, check the degrees rather than relying on matching signs. Uranus carries an R when it was retrograde at birth; the Node symbols never show one.
If you leave the birth time blank, Uranus and the Nodes are placed for local noon, which is a working reference and not an estimate of your time. A tiny 0.9% of conjunction dates were the first or last day of a window, the only days where the hour could decide whether the line appears. House positions need the real time.
