Venus Conjunct Chiron: Love, Worth and the Tender Spot Together

Venus conjunct Chiron means Venus and Chiron were no more than 8° apart at your birth. Venus is the planet of attraction, affection, taste and the sense of what something (or someone, yourself included) is worth. Chiron is read in modern astrology as a sensitive place that stays tender and can, given time, turn into hard-won understanding. Put the two together and questions of being loved, valued or found attractive sit on that same sensitive point.

The chart shows a theme to explore. It does not record what anyone went through.

Common ways it is described

Receiving is harder than giving. Many astrologers notice that people with this contact are generous with care and compliments, then go quiet or deflect when warmth comes back to them.

Worth that wobbles. Self-esteem may feel conditional: fine while useful or admired, shaky when simply present. Pricing your own work, spending on yourself or accepting a gift can bring that up.

A fine eye for what soothes. Taste is often sensitive. Music, clothes, rooms or art that ease a sore feeling may matter a great deal, and some people turn that eye into a craft.

Repair through closeness. In the psychological and evolutionary reading the site uses, growth tends to come inside relationships that feel safe enough to show the tender part, and from learning to value yourself without first earning it.

Venus's sign and house, and the other aspects to both bodies, decide which of these sound familiar. None of them is a verdict.

The R marker never appears beside Chiron here

Venus can swing up to about 47° from the Sun, as which Sun, Mercury and Venus aspects are possible shows. So when Venus sits on Chiron, the Sun cannot be far from Chiron either: no more than about 55° away in our sample. Chiron only looks retrograde while the Sun is much further round, at least about 100° from it.

The sample is one chart for noon at Greenwich on every date from 1 January 1920 to 31 December 2060, 51,501 charts in all, which is the whole span in which the calculator includes Chiron. The conjunction showed on 2,496 of those days (4.85%, roughly one in 21). Chiron was direct on every single one, while across all sampled days it was retrograde on 39.5%.

The Sun was conjunct Chiron as well on 11.1% of the conjunction days, so a minority of these charts group Sun, Venus and Chiron together. Sun conjunct Chiron covers the Sun's side of that meeting.

Once a year, and sometimes for six weeks

Seen from Earth, Venus keeps pace with the Sun on average, so it reaches slow-moving Chiron roughly once a year: 149 noon windows in 141 years. An ordinary pass lasted 13 to 23 days at noon, most often 14.

Venus turns retrograde for 40 to 44 days about every 19 months, and it was retrograde on 7.2% of all sampled days (8.1% of conjunction days). A Venus retrograde happens only while Venus is close to the Sun, within about 29° on every sampled retrograde day, which keeps the Sun near Chiron too. Chiron stayed direct even then. When the turn fell inside the window, the conjunction stretched to between 23 and 62 days (11 such windows); the longest in the range runs from 5 April to 5 June 2036.

April 2017: Venus turned direct on Chiron

The 2017 conjunction shows what a station does. Venus turned retrograde in early March, backed out of Aries into Pisces, where Chiron then was, and stopped almost on top of it. At London noon on 15 April 2017 the calculator has:

Body Position
Sun 25°40' Aries
Venus 26°54' Pisces, just turned direct
Chiron 26°31' Pisces, direct

Venus was 0.38° from Chiron and barely moving. At Greenwich noon the two stayed within 1° of each other from 11 to 22 April, and the whole noon window lasted 42 days, from 28 March to 8 May, without the separation ever reaching zero at noon. Everyone born in those weeks has the conjunction; only its closeness changes.

21 April 2024 and 16 May 2027

A plain pass looks very different. At London noon on 21 April 2024, two weeks after the total solar eclipse, Venus at 20°06' Aries was 0.04° from Chiron at 20°08' Aries. The Sun had moved on to 1°49' Taurus, 11.7° away, so the chart draws a line from Venus to Chiron and none from the Sun. That window lasted 13 days, 15 to 27 April.

The next close one is calculated for May 2027, with Chiron back in Taurus. At London noon on 16 May the calculator puts Venus at 1°55' Taurus and Chiron at 1°54' Taurus, 0.01° apart. Venus rules Taurus, so astrologers would give that conjunction extra emphasis by sign as well; Chiron in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn describes that placement.

On 12.7% of sampled conjunction days Venus and Chiron sat in neighbouring signs. The line is drawn all the same, because the calculator measures the angle, not the signs.

Finding it on your chart

On your free birth chart a conjunction is an amber line, often very short, or ♀ and ⚷ drawn almost on top of each other. The planet table should put them within 8°. Chiron appears only for birth dates from 1920 to 2060; for other dates the chart omits it with a note.

Without a birth time the chart still draws Venus's lines, using local noon as an internal reference; only the Moon's lines are left out. Venus moves at most about 1.3° a day, so the date usually settles the question. On 11.5% of sampled conjunction days the noon separation was within 1° of the 8° limit, and on 5.6% within half a degree; for those dates the hour of birth decides. Birth charts without a birth time explains what else changes.
