Venus Trine Chiron: Gentle Comfort, and the Care It Can Skip
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Venus trine Chiron means Venus and Chiron were 112° to 128° apart when you were born, within orb of the easy 120° angle. Venus is about affection, pleasure, beauty and what you value. Chiron is the sensitive place that can turn into understanding. A trine lets them cooperate, so comfort and empathy tend to come out together, often without much effort.
Ease is the gift and also the risk. What causes no friction can go unexamined for a long time.
How the easy flow can show up
A soothing presence. Others may relax around this person, particularly when something hurts. The comfort often arrives through simple things: tone of voice, a meal, a tidy room, an unhurried afternoon.
Beauty as repair. Art, music, gardening or a craft can work as a way to settle old feelings. Some people with this trine make things that other people find consoling.
Relationships that allow softness. Partners and friends may find it easy to show vulnerable sides around them, and affection is often offered without conditions attached.
Smoothing over your own needs. The shadow is familiar from other easy aspects: keeping everyone comfortable, sometimes at your own expense, or assuming that because love comes easily, nothing in you still wants attention.
In the evolutionary reading, the trine becomes most useful when that kindness is also turned inward on purpose.
Retrograde on about six days in ten
For the Sun, a trine to Chiron almost guarantees an R beside ⚷: 99.4% of sampled Sun-trine days, as Sun trine Chiron shows. Venus loosens that link. Because Venus can sit up to about 47° to either side of the Sun, a Venus-Chiron trine leaves the Sun anywhere from about 65° to 174° from Chiron, and only the part beyond roughly 100° falls in Chiron's retrograde season.
Across the 51,501 Greenwich noon charts we sampled, one for every date from 1920 to 2060 (all the years for which the calculator includes Chiron), the trine showed on 4,346 days: 8.44%, about one in 12. Chiron was retrograde on 59.6% of them and direct on 40.4%, compared with 39.5% retrograde across all days. On the direct days the Sun was 65.5° to 112.7° from Chiron, often square it: the Sun squared Chiron on 17.6% of Venus-trine days and trined it on 11.6%.
So with this trine, either answer on the R is ordinary.
Window lengths, and the Venus loop
Two trines per cycle gave about two windows a year (291 in the sample). With Venus moving direct, most lasted 13 days, within a range of 12 to 29. Venus was retrograde on 6.3% of trine days, and a retrograde within the window could stretch it to 67 days. Out-of-sign trines made up 13.6%.
Venus turns retrograde for 40 to 44 days roughly every 19 months (88 retrograde periods in the sample, starting 579 to 588 days apart). When a turn happens near the trine, Venus can cross the exact angle three times. With Chiron in Aries, from 2018 to 2027, most trine days had Venus in Leo or Sagittarius, joining two fire signs.
Summer 2023: three exact trines in Leo
The clearest recent case came in 2023, with Venus in Leo and Chiron in Aries. All positions below are for London at noon.
| Date | Venus | Chiron | Orb |
|---|---|---|---|
| 29 June | 19°46' Leo | 19°42' Aries | 0.06° |
| 14 August | 19°51' Leo, retrograde | 19°45' Aries, retrograde | 0.10° |
| 23 September | 18°32' Leo | 18°28' Aries, retrograde | 0.07° |
Between the first two dates, Venus turned retrograde around 23 July at 28°35' Leo, just beyond the 8° orb, so the noon line was absent from 17 to 28 July. Chiron turned retrograde about a day later. Venus turned direct around 4 September at about 12° Leo, still inside the orb, and the second window ran from 29 July to 3 October: 67 days, the longest trine window in the sample.
The middle date sits beside Venus's pass between Earth and the Sun (the two were 0.02° apart at noon on 13 August), so in mid-August the Sun was trine Chiron as well, 1.66° wide on the 14th. Three people born that summer could share this trine with three different pictures: Venus and Chiron both direct in June, both retrograde in August, and Venus direct with Chiron retrograde in September. Venus retrograde in the natal chart covers what astrologers make of the R on Venus.
Finding it on your chart
On your free birth chart a trine is a solid blue line; dashed blue is a sextile. Look for ♀ and ⚷ 112° to 128° apart in the planet table. Chiron is shown only for birth dates from 1920 to 2060.
If the birth time is unknown, Venus aspects are still drawn from the noon reference. On 12.3% of sampled trine days the noon orb was within 1° of the 8° limit, and on 5.7% within half a degree; for those dates the birth hour decides. Chiron in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius describes the fire placement behind the 2023 example.
