Moon Trine Chiron: Natural Comfort and the Hurts It Can Skip
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Moon trine Chiron means the Moon and Chiron were 112° to 128° apart when you were born. A trine is the most easy-going of the major aspects: the two sides support each other without much effort. Here the Moon, which describes feelings and the need for comfort, flows easily into Chiron, the small body linked with an old hurt that slowly turns into understanding. The result is often an instinctive gift for comfort, along with a tendency to take it for granted.
Patterns people describe
Instinctive empathy. A common description is sensing how others feel before they say anything, and knowing almost by reflex how to make someone feel safer.
Soothing others first. Because comfort comes so easily, some people with this trine look after everyone else's feelings and skip their own. The old hurt may stay quiet rather than resolved.
Resilience that looks effortless. The trine is often linked with bouncing back well from emotional knocks. Others may see calm; the person may know how much work happens underneath.
Using the gift on purpose. In the evolutionary reading, the development here is turning a natural talent into a conscious one, giving yourself the same care you give so easily to others. Caring work, listening roles and creative work around feeling are common outlets.
None of this is guaranteed. The Moon's sign and house, and any hard aspects to either body, can change the picture considerably.
Two trines every month
The Moon trines Chiron twice per lunar cycle, once about 120° ahead of it and once about 120° behind, and each pass lasts 25 to 33 hours. We sampled Greenwich at noon on all 51,501 days from 1920 to 2060, the years the calculator covers for Chiron, and filled in the hours between by interpolation. A trine touched 16.1% of those dates, and covered the whole date on roughly one in ten of them. At noon, 8.9% of charts showed one, about one day in 11, and 13.1% of those linked signs of different elements, an out-of-sign trine.
The lunation decides Chiron's direction
Chiron's R depends only on how far the Sun is from it. Around a New or Full Moon, the Sun's position follows from the Moon's, so the trine tells you that distance too.
- Close to a New Moon the Sun sits beside the Moon, so it too is about 120° from Chiron, the distance at which Chiron is usually retrograde. Of the 289 sampled trine noons that fell within roughly a day of a New Moon, 94.8% had Chiron retrograde.
- Close to a Full Moon the Sun faces the Moon from across the zodiac, which leaves it about 60° from Chiron. Chiron was direct on all 300 such noons.
That is the reverse of the sextile: compare Moon sextile Chiron. The Sun side of the retrograde link is on Sun trine Chiron.
December 2025 and February 2026
A New Moon trine in fire. The New Moon of 20 December 2025 fell at 01:40 London time (GMT), with the Sun at 28°25' and the Moon at 28°23' Sagittarius. Chiron was retrograde at 22°41' Aries, about two weeks before turning direct. The Moon trined Chiron within 5.7° and the Sun within 5.73°, and Venus, also in Sagittarius, within 1.5°: three trines between fire signs. In London the Moon's trine was in orb from 22:30 on 18 December to 06:15 on 20 December.
A Full Moon trine. The Full Moon of 1 February 2026 fell at 22:10 GMT, with the Moon at 13°04' Leo opposite the Sun at 13°04' Aquarius. Chiron was direct at 23°01' Aries. The trine was not yet in orb at the moment of the Full Moon. It began three and a half hours later, at 01:45 on 2 February, and ran until 05:15 on 3 February, closest around 15:15 on the 2nd. Both cases link Aries with another fire sign, the element covered in Chiron in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius.
Finding it on your chart
No birth time, no line: an unknown-time chart shows the Moon at its noon degree, marks it with ≈ in the planet table and skips all of its aspect lines (finding your Moon sign without a birth time explains the reasoning). Once a time is entered, the trine shows up on the free birth chart as a solid blue line joining ☽ and ⚷, with 112° to 128° between them in the planet table. Chiron is included for birth dates from 1920 to 2060 only.
