Moon Sextile Chiron: Emotional Insight That Grows With Use
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Moon sextile Chiron means the Moon and Chiron were 54° to 66° apart when you were born. The sextile is a cooperative contact: it connects two parts of the chart without pressure, so the link is there to be used rather than forced on anyone. Here it connects the Moon's emotional needs with Chiron, the spot astrologers read as tender and, over time, a source of understanding.
Patterns people describe
Feelings that can be talked about. A common description is being able to name an old hurt without being swamped by it. The sextile often comes with some distance from the wound, enough to reflect on it.
Comfort that helps others. Many people with this aspect are good at offering practical emotional support: the right words, a steady presence, a sense of when to leave someone alone. They tend to help as a peer rather than a rescuer.
Small steps rather than breakthroughs. The sextile describes opportunity more than drama. Its gifts often grow through ordinary habits such as rest, routine, honest conversation and asking for help early.
Easy to leave unused. The flip side is that nothing pushes this aspect into action. Some people only notice how much it offers once they start deliberately using it, for example in caring work, teaching or support roles.
Read these as possibilities. The Moon's sign, house and other aspects matter as much as the sextile itself.
The shortest Moon-Chiron window
The sextile has the tightest orb in the calculator, 6° either side rather than 8°, so the Moon crosses it faster than any other Moon-Chiron contact. Each pass lasts about 18 to 26 hours, and there are two passes in each lunar cycle, one with the Moon about 60° ahead of Chiron in zodiac order and one with it about 60° behind.
Interpolating between our noon charts (51,501 Greenwich charts, one for each day from 1920 to 2060, the whole span in which Chiron is calculated), one of the two sextiles was in orb at some point on 13.9% of sampled dates. Only 0.3% of those dates were covered from midnight to midnight, so for nearly everyone born on such a date, the birth hour decides whether there is a line. At noon, 6.7% of charts showed the sextile, about one day in 15, and 9.5% of those were out of sign.
New Moon or Full Moon
At a lunation the Moon's angle to Chiron also sets the Sun's, and that decides whether Chiron is retrograde.
- Near a New Moon the Sun stands near the Moon, about 60° from Chiron, just where Chiron is always direct. On every sampled noon with this sextile within about a day of the exact New Moon, Chiron was direct (226 days).
- Near a Full Moon the Sun is on the far side, about 120° from Chiron, inside Chiron's retrograde season. On 95.8% of those noons (215 days), Chiron was retrograde.
The reason is set out on the Sun pages: Chiron is direct on every sampled Sun sextile Chiron day and retrograde on almost every Sun trine Chiron day.
June 2026: the line appears at the New Moon
The New Moon of June 2026 fell at 03:50 London time (BST) on 15 June, with the Sun at 24°03' Gemini and the Moon at 24°00' Gemini. Chiron was at 29°49' Aries, direct, in its last degree before entering Taurus on 19 June. The Moon was 5.82° from an exact sextile, just inside the 6° limit; in London the window had opened at 03:45, five minutes earlier, and it closed at 22:30 the same day, a pass of under 19 hours. The Sun was sextile Chiron as well, within 5.77°.
The Full Moon side looks different. The Full Moon of 4 December 2025 fell at 23:10 GMT with the Moon at 13°01' Gemini and Chiron retrograde at 22°58' Aries. At that moment the Moon was still about 10° short of the sextile. The line appeared from 05:30 on 5 December to 00:30 on 6 December, closest around 14:45. Chiron's position that winter is covered in Chiron in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius.
Finding it on your chart
Enter a birth time: without one the Moon is shown at local noon as a reference only, and the wheel leaves off every Moon aspect line (why the Moon needs a birth time). With a time, a sextile on your free birth chart is a dashed blue line between ☽ and ⚷; a solid blue line would be a trine. The planet table should show them 54° to 66° apart. Chiron is drawn only for birth dates from 1920 to 2060.
