Sun Sextile Chiron: Turning a Sore Spot Into a Usable Skill
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Sun sextile Chiron means the Sun and Chiron were 54° to 66° apart when you were born. The sextile is the lightest of the five major aspects and the only one the calculator gives a 6° orb instead of 8°. Astrologers usually read it as an open door rather than a push: the connection is there, but it tends to pay off when someone actually walks through it.
Here the door connects the core self (the Sun) with Chiron's territory, the tender spot and the understanding that can grow out of it. In the psychological and evolutionary approach the site uses, that reads as practical access to hard-won knowledge rather than as a dramatic theme.
What the open door can look like
Knowing what helps, because you needed it once. People with this sextile often have a clear sense of what is useful to say, or not say, to someone who is struggling. It comes across as common sense more than as a calling.
Talking about difficult things without making them the headline. The sore spot may be acknowledged with a light touch, sometimes with humour, and then the conversation moves on.
Peer support rather than rescue. The sextile tends to show up between equals: the colleague who quietly shares how they got through the same problem, the friend who sends the right article at the right moment.
Growth through practice. Skills linked to the Chiron theme, such as listening, teaching or simply asking for help, often improve fastest when they are used on purpose.
Where it can stay unused
Because the sextile does not force anything, it is easy to leave it idle. Someone may have the insight and never offer it, or keep their own sore spot out of sight because it never causes enough trouble to demand attention. The developmental step is small but deliberate: noticing the opportunity and taking it. A sextile describes a possibility, not a guarantee.
Two short windows a year, with Chiron always direct
Across the 51,501 noon charts we cast for Greenwich, one per date from 1920 through 2060 (every date for which the calculator shows Chiron), the Sun sextiled Chiron on 6.9% of days, roughly one day in 14. That is more than the conjunction or the opposition because there are two sextile points in each cycle, one on each side of Chiron.
Each pass lasted only 12 to 14 days at noon, shorter than any other Sun-Chiron aspect, because the orb is narrower. And on every sampled sextile day Chiron was direct:
- The Sun about 60° ahead of Chiron in zodiac order: this sextile came 44 to 57 days before Chiron turned retrograde.
- The Sun about 60° behind Chiron: this one came 39 to 58 days after Chiron turned direct again.
So the R marker never sits beside ⚷ in a Sun sextile Chiron chart. For people born with Chiron in Aries between 2018 and 2027, the two windows fell with the Sun mostly in Aquarius (late January to February) or in Gemini (May to June). On 11 June 2024 Venus, travelling with the Sun in Gemini, was sextile Chiron in the same window; see Venus sextile Chiron.
The June 2026 solstice sextile
The first sextile of 2026 ran from 6 to 17 February, with the Sun in Aquarius and Chiron in Aries. The second ran from 15 to 27 June and is a good example of how sign changes can cut through a single window. It opened on the day of the New Moon, when the Moon was sextile Chiron too (Moon sextile Chiron). Two years earlier, on 14 June 2024, Mercury and the Sun were both sextile Chiron in the same window; see Mercury sextile Chiron.
Chiron entered Taurus on 19 June 2026, returning after earlier Taurus visits between 1976 and 1984. At London noon on 21 June, the day of the solstice, the calculator has the Sun at 0°06' Cancer and Chiron at 0°03' Taurus: a sextile within 0.05°. The Sun had reached 0° Cancer at about 09:24 that morning, London time.
Across that one window the sextile ran through three sign pairs:
| Dates (noon) | Sun | Chiron | Signs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 to 19 June | Gemini | late Aries | sextile by sign |
| 20 June | 29° Gemini | 0° Taurus | neighbouring signs, out of sign |
| 21 to 27 June | Cancer | Taurus | sextile by sign |
Chiron then turned retrograde around 4 August, 44 days after the exact sextile, and slipped back into Aries on 18 September. The dates for every Chiron sign change are on the page about finding your Chiron sign, and the Taurus side of this example is read in Chiron in the earth signs.
Out-of-sign sextiles like 20 June were less common than for the other Sun-Chiron aspects: 9.1% of sampled sextile days.
Finding it on your chart
On your free birth chart a sextile is a dashed blue line; a solid blue line between the same glyphs would be a trine instead. Check that ☉ and ⚷ are between 54° and 66° apart in the planet table. Chiron appears for birth dates from 1920 to 2060 only, so earlier or later charts show no Chiron and no Chiron lines.
The narrow orb makes the edges matter. On 16.9% of sampled sextile days the noon separation was within 1° of the 6° limit, and on 8.5% within half a degree. Without a birth time the chart uses noon as an internal reference, and for those edge dates the actual birth hour decides whether the line is drawn. How aspect orbs work covers the limits in general.
