How Transits Work
Updated May 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Transits don’t act alone.
They only matter when they hit your chart.
The basic idea
A moving planet meets a fixed point.
That connection creates an effect.
No connection, no trigger.
This is where most people recognize themselves. It shows up in how you react, how people respond to you, and why certain situations repeat.
What creates the effect
It depends on:
- which planet is moving
- what it touches
- the angle between them
That angle is an aspect:
But this alone doesn't explain the full pattern -- how it plays out depends on the rest of your chart.
Fast vs slow planets
Not all transits feel the same.
- fast planets → short effects
- slow planets → long phases
Some pass quickly. Others stay.
Where it happens
The house tells you where the change shows up.
So location matters.
Summary
Transits work through contact. A moving planet hits your chart, and something shifts. This is just the surface. The real pattern shows up when this interacts with the rest of your chart.
