Astrology Transits
Transits are the ongoing movements of planets through the sky and how they interact with your birth chart. Where the natal chart is fixed — a snapshot of the sky at the moment of your birth — transits show the living sky as it moves forward through time. When a transiting planet reaches a significant point in your natal chart, it activates the energy associated with that point.
A transit is not something that happens to you from the outside. It is more like a moving lens that illuminates a specific area of your chart for a period of time, bringing whatever lives there to the surface — an opportunity, a challenge, a turning point, a period of pressure or growth.
Transit duration varies enormously by planet
The Moon transits the entire zodiac in about a month, spending only two to three days in any single sign. Its transits are brief and daily-feeling. The Sun moves through a sign in about 30 days. Mars takes approximately two years to complete a full cycle. Saturn takes 29 years. Pluto, at its slowest, can spend 30 years in a single sign — and its transits to sensitive natal points can last not weeks but years.
The slower the planet, the more significant and lasting the transit. A Saturn transit to your natal Sun describes a period of serious reckoning, sustained effort, and long-term restructuring — a chapter of life, not an episode. A Mercury transit to the same point lasts a few days and produces a brief moment of mental activity or communication around that theme.
Why transits matter
Understanding transits lets you see your life in context. Events that feel random often correlate with specific planetary activations. The timing of major life changes — career shifts, relationship transitions, personal crises, periods of sudden growth — frequently aligns with significant transits. This does not mean planets cause events, but that personal thresholds and readiness often align with the cycles of the sky.
