Uranus Transits to Natal Saturn: Two Planets, One Saturn Degree

Updated October 24, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial

← Back to Transits

A Uranus transit to natal Saturn is a period when Uranus in the sky reaches a conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition to the degree Saturn held at your birth. Natal Saturn is fixed. Uranus takes decades to move a few signs and backs up for about five months a year, so each contact point may be crossed once or several times, and only a scan of dates tells you which.

Transiting Saturn reaches the same natal degree too, on its own much shorter cycle: the Saturn return, the Saturn squares and the opposition to natal Saturn. People often want to know how the two line up. This page lists both as separate, dated series for one chart, states a rule for pairing them, and reports the gaps it finds, without assuming any fixed relationship.

In astrology Saturn is usually linked with structure, commitments, responsibility and time; Uranus with change, independence and the unexpected. A Uranus contact to natal Saturn is often framed as a time to look at which structures still fit. That is one lens for optional reflection, not a forecast, and it says nothing certain about anyone's character or circumstances.

Educational guide: nothing on Astrologist.com computes transits. There is no transit calendar, return chart or timing report, and the free birth chart stops at the natal chart. Both series below were worked out offline, once, for a made-up chart; for your own dates, set natal Saturn beside a Tropical ephemeris.

One natal degree, two moving planets

Express natal Saturn as a single longitude S, counted from 0° Aries. Either moving planet has the same eight contact points, S plus a directed offset a: 0° (the conjunction, which for Saturn itself is the return), then 60°, 90° and 120° on the waxing side, 180° for the opposition, and 240°, 270° and 300° on the waning side. Totals over 360 wrap round.

Uranus and Saturn are at the same target longitude only when both are measured at the same directed offset a. A few consequences:

  • Uranus conjunct natal Saturn and the Saturn return share one degree, S. So do Uranus's waxing square and Saturn's waxing square, at S + 90°, and so on for each offset.
  • A Uranus sextile to natal Saturn and a Saturn return are not at the same target. They are 60° apart.
  • The waxing and waning squares are different targets, 180° apart. "Uranus square Saturn" and "Saturn square Saturn" in the same year can be crossings of opposite points.
  • Two planets crossing one degree are still two planetary motions. A shared target or a shared month is not one event, and one does not confirm the other.

Worked example: Leeds, 11 October 2002, 18:40

A fictional person, with real arithmetic from the free chart's calculation code run offline.

  • Birth: 11 October 2002 at 18:40 in Leeds. British Summer Time applied (it ended on 27 October that year), UT+1, so the birth was 17:40 UT and the local date ran from 23:00 UT on 10 October to 22:59 UT on 11 October. Python's time zone database gives UT+1 for every minute of that date.
  • Natal Saturn: shown by the chart as 29°05' Gemini, marked retrograde; 89.0852° at full precision (29°05'07"). Saturn had turned retrograde at 14:01 BST that afternoon, so at the birth it was almost stationary.
  • Natal Uranus: 25°08' Aquarius, retrograde, 123.95° from Saturn, a trine within the 8° orb the natal calculator uses for trines. See Saturn trine Uranus for the natal reading. That natal aspect is a lifelong chart feature, separate from the transits below.
  • Routines and code: repository commit a2a46fa3. Saturn and Uranus, natal and moving, both come from the free chart's planetary routine (VSOP87B in the astronomia package), giving apparent geocentric Tropical longitude on the ecliptic and equinox of date.
  • Window: 1 January 2005, 00:00 UT, to 1 January 2058, 00:00 UT, ages 2.2 to 55.2. It starts after the end of Saturn's birth-year loop: Saturn, retrograde at the birth, turned direct and crossed its own natal degree again on 27 May 2003. That pass belongs to the loop Saturn was in when the person was born; it is not a return.
  • Method: positions of each planet at 6-hour steps, crossing times bisected below thirty seconds, station times to roughly a minute. Those are arithmetic tolerances, not accuracy claims. Groups were traced beyond both ends of the window for as far as the tested span reaches (1920 to early 2061). All dates are UT days, and dates after October 2026 are computed forward.

Series 1: Uranus to natal Saturn, all eight branches

Over the window Uranus went from 3°54' Pisces (333.91°) forward to 28°25' Libra (208.43°): counted continuously past 0° Aries, 333.91° to 568.43°, a span of 234.52°. Both extremes are the window's ends; no station inside the window went beyond them.

Uranus contact Point Result in this window Exact (UT) Age
Waning square (270°) 29°05' Pisces 3 crossings 3 May 2010 D, 9 Sep 2010 R, 23 Feb 2011 D 7.56 to 8.37
Waning sextile (300°) 29°05' Aries 3 crossings 29 Apr 2018 D, 3 Dec 2018 R, 9 Feb 2019 D 15.55 to 16.33
Conjunction (0°) 29°05' Gemini 3 crossings 17 Jul 2032 D, 2 Jan 2033 R, 4 May 2033 D 29.76 to 30.56
Waxing sextile (60°) 29°05' Leo 3 crossings 19 Sep 2045 D, 1 Mar 2046 R, 5 Jul 2046 D 42.94 to 43.73
Waxing square (90°) 29°05' Virgo 3 crossings 13 Nov 2051 D, 28 Feb 2052 R, 27 Aug 2052 D 49.09 to 49.88
Waxing trine (120°) 29°05' Libra none found in this window
Opposition (180°) 29°05' Sagittarius none found in this window
Waning trine (240°) 29°05' Aquarius none found in this window

Fifteen crossings, all complete groups; nothing is clipped at either end. Just outside the window: the waning trine point was crossed in February, October and November 2003, after the birth but before the start; and Uranus turned retrograde on 1 February 2058, a month after the end, at 28°53' Libra, 0.19° short of the waxing trine point, which it first crossed on 19 October 2058. The opposition point has no crossing before 2061. As with any window, none found means none found between these dates.

Series 2: Saturn to natal Saturn, all eight branches

The same window, the same natal degree, transiting Saturn. Saturn went round the zodiac almost twice: counted continuously, from 110.39° (a direct station on 22 March 2005, below its 114.93° at the start) to 755.98° (a retrograde station on 17 August 2057, beyond its value at the end).

Saturn contact Point Exact (UT) Age
Waxing sextile (60°) 29°05' Leo 26 Aug 2007; 6 Oct 2036, 22 Feb 2037 R, 27 Jun 2037 4.87; 33.99 to 34.71
Waxing square (90°) 29°05' Virgo 21 Oct 2009, 21 Apr 2010 R, 8 Jul 2010; 24 Dec 2038, 23 Jan 2039 R, 28 Aug 2039 7.03 to 7.74; 36.20 to 36.88
Waxing trine (120°) 29°05' Libra 16 Jan 2012, 29 Feb 2012 R, 27 Sep 2012; 3 Nov 2041 9.26 to 9.96; 39.06
Opposition (180°) 29°05' Sagittarius 12 Dec 2017; 16 Jan 2047, 25 Jul 2047 R, 8 Oct 2047 15.17; 44.26 to 44.99
Waning trine (240°) 29°05' Aquarius 27 Feb 2023; 6 Apr 2052, 21 Aug 2052 R, 1 Jan 2053 20.38; 49.49 to 50.23
Waning square (270°) 29°05' Pisces 14 May 2025, 13 Sep 2025 R, 5 Feb 2026; 15 Mar 2055 22.59 to 23.32; 52.42
Waning sextile (300°) 29°05' Aries 5 Apr 2028; 12 May 2057 25.48; 54.59
Return (0°) 29°05' Gemini 6 Jul 2032 29.74

Twenty-nine crossings in fifteen groups (a semicolon separates groups), all complete. Saturn's groups have one or three passes. Two stations came close to a point without reaching it: the retrograde station of 8 January 2039 at 29°17' Virgo, 0.21° beyond the waxing square point, which is why that group has three passes; and a direct station on 31 December 2057 at 29°07' Aries, 0.03° beyond the waning sextile point and 17 hours before the window closed. Saturn had crossed that point once, on 12 May 2057, then turned and stopped just short of coming back. That is a near miss, not a touch and not a second crossing.

A pairing rule, and what it gives

To compare the series, the rule used here is:

  1. A group is a run of crossings of one point by one planet, each less than two years after the last. In this window each planet's passes over a point came within about seven months of each other, while Saturn's next group at the same point began at least 28.4 years later and Uranus never returned to a point within the window, so the rule separates groups unambiguously here.
  2. Each Uranus group is compared only with Saturn groups at the same directed offset, so both planets are crossing the same degree.
  3. For each Uranus group, take the Saturn group at that point that began most recently on or before the Uranus group's first crossing, and the first one that began after it. Both are reported, whichever is closer. If either does not exist inside the window, it is reported as unmatched.
  4. The gap is Saturn's first crossing minus Uranus's first crossing, from the computed timestamps. Pass numbers are not matched: a three-pass group is not paired pass by pass with a one-pass group.

Uranus has groups at five of the eight points, so five comparisons are possible. The other three points (Saturn's waxing trine, opposition and waning trine) have Saturn groups but no Uranus group in the window; they stay in Series 2 unpaired.

Point (offset) Uranus group starts Saturn group before Saturn group after
Waning square, 270° 3 May 2010 unmatched (none in the window) 14 May 2025, +15.03 years
Waning sextile, 300° 29 Apr 2018 unmatched (none in the window) 5 Apr 2028, +9.94 years
Conjunction / return, 0° 17 Jul 2032 6 Jul 2032, 10.3 days earlier unmatched (none before 2058)
Waxing sextile, 60° 19 Sep 2045 6 Oct 2036, 8.95 years earlier unmatched (none before 2058)
Waxing square, 90° 13 Nov 2051 24 Dec 2038, 12.89 years earlier unmatched (none before 2058)

Measured without sign, the gaps run from about 10 days to about 15 years (signed, from 12.89 years before to 15.03 years after), and they follow no constant pattern. That is expected: Saturn reaches each point roughly every 29.5 years and Uranus far less often, so where their groups fall relative to each other depends on the particular degrees and dates. The earlier Saturn groups at the waxing sextile (2007) and waxing square (2009 to 2010) are not the most recent before their Uranus groups, so the rule does not pair them; they remain in Series 2.

Same degree, same month: July 2032

Transiting Saturn and Uranus met each other in the sky on 28 June 2032 at 28°01' Gemini, 1.07° short of this natal Saturn. Over the next weeks both crossed the natal degree:

  • Saturn crossed it once, on 6 July 2032: the Saturn return. It turned direct on 1 March 2033 at 0°12' Cancer, 1.13° beyond the point, so it did not come back over it.
  • Uranus crossed it on 17 July 2032, recrossed it retrograde on 2 January 2033, and crossed it a third time on 4 May 2033, after turning direct on 5 March 2033 at 27°35' Gemini, 1.49° short of the point.

Same degree, first crossings 10.3 days apart, but one pass against three, and Saturn's only pass 301.6 days before Uranus's last. These are two different planets on two different cycles that happen to cross one point within a few weeks. The second does not strengthen or confirm the first, it is not a return of Uranus (Uranus's own return concerns natal Uranus, at 25°08' Aquarius), and the coincidence predicts nothing.

Two other years show the reverse trap, crossings that look related but are not at the same target. In 2009 and 2010 Saturn made its waxing square to natal Saturn at 29°05' Virgo (October 2009, April 2010, July 2010) while Uranus made its waning square at 29°05' Pisces (May 2010, September 2010, February 2011). Both are "squares to Saturn" in the same year, at points 180° apart. In 2052 Uranus's waxing square passes (November 2051 to August 2052) overlap Saturn's waning trine passes (April 2052 to January 2053) at two points 150° apart.

If the birth time were missing

Without a clock time the free chart computes from local noon as a stand-in (Saturn again shows 29°05' Gemini). Noon is never shown as the birth time, and no houses or Ascendant are given.

This birth date includes a station. Over the whole local date, 00:00 to 23:59 BST, Saturn ran from 89.0850° at midnight up to 89.0853° at the retrograde station at 14:01 BST and then barely back again: the extreme is inside the date, not at an end. The range is about 0.0003°, about one arc-second, far from 0° Aries, so no 0/360 wrap applies. Both series use the same natal Saturn, so at any candidate birth time they share one set of targets. Rescanned every ten minutes across the date, every count in both series stayed the same and the crossings moved by no more than about 15 minutes. This is a result for a birth on a station day; a natal Saturn moving at its usual speed would move the targets far more.

Rounding and transcription

The chart's 0.01° output, 89.09°, is 0.0048° above the full value. With it, no count changed; Uranus crossings moved by up to 4.21 hours with no change of UT day, and Saturn crossings by up to 4.25 hours, with two moving to the following UT day (7 instead of 6 October 2036 and 28 instead of 27 September 2012).

Copying the displayed minutes, 29°05' Gemini (89.0833°), moved Uranus crossings by up to 1.69 hours, with one day change (12 instead of 13 November 2051), and Saturn crossings by up to 1.69 hours, with one day change (13 instead of 14 May 2025). No count changed and every pairing gap moved by hours only. Here the displayed value is closer to the full one than the 0.01° output is, which is why it moves dates less; that is a property of this chart's numbers, not a general rule.

Possible themes when Uranus contacts Saturn

Read these against natal Saturn's sign and aspects, and its house only if the birth time is reliable. They are questions to consider, not results:

  • Conjunction. Noticing which routines, rules or commitments still feel chosen, and which are carried on by habit.
  • Squares. A structure meeting a changed situation; often read as a cue to adapt how a commitment is kept rather than whether.
  • Opposition. Your own idea of responsibility set against other people's expectations or new arrangements around you.
  • Trines and sextiles. Commonly described as times when updating a structure feels easier to organise in small steps.

None of these promises loss, separation, illness, job, money or legal events, and none means something must end. A Uranus contact near a Saturn return does not make the return "stronger" or "confirmed". For Saturn's own cycle on its own terms, see What is a Saturn return?, Saturn square Saturn and Saturn opposition Saturn. For Uranus against its own birth position, see Uranus return. For Uranus against natal Jupiter, see Uranus transits to natal Jupiter.

Working out your own Uranus-Saturn comparison

  1. Read natal Saturn from the free birth chart and turn it into one number from 0° Aries.
  2. Add the eight offsets, wrapping at 360. Each point is a target for both Uranus and Saturn.
  3. Choose and write down a start and end date. In a Tropical ephemeris, list every crossing of every point by Uranus, then separately by Saturn, with directions, and note stations within about a degree of a point.
  4. Group each planet's passes, check past both ends of the period for groups that are cut off, and compare only groups at the same point. State your pairing rule before looking at the gaps, report both neighbours, and leave unmatched groups unmatched.
  5. If the birth time is unknown or rounded, repeat with natal Saturn at the earliest and latest possible moments, and check whether Saturn stationed during the birth date.

What has been tested: the repository compares its Saturn and its Uranus with the Swiss Ephemeris in two separate daily tests (noon UT, late December 1919 to early January 2061), each also pairing every station, and the free chart applies no date limit to either planet. Checked separately for this page, Swiss natal Saturn differs from the site's by under 0.01 arc-seconds, and Swiss puts the natal station in the same minute. At every tabled crossing Swiss Uranus was within 1.43 arc-seconds of the site's point and Swiss Saturn within 0.47 arc-seconds, whether measured against the site's point or one built from the Swiss natal value (0.23 hours or less for Uranus, 0.09 for Saturn). The 2032 meeting of the two planets falls 8 minutes later in Swiss. Outside 1920 to 2060, read natal Saturn and both moving planets from a single outside ephemeris with matching conventions (apparent, geocentric, Tropical, one time standard).

The hand method is laid out step by step in how to read transits without a transit tool. You can discuss natal Saturn, or Uranus and Saturn dates you have looked up, in Ask the Astrologist; the chat does not produce transit dates.
