Saturn Transits to Natal Uranus: Why Births a Month Apart Differ
Updated October 26, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
A Saturn transit to natal Uranus is a date on which Saturn, moving through today's sky, reaches one of eight fixed points measured from your birth Uranus: the same degree, or 60°, 90°, 120° or 180° away on either side. Saturn goes round the zodiac in roughly 29 and a half years, so it reaches each point about once per lap, sometimes in one forward pass and sometimes in three passes as it loops back and forth.
Natal Uranus moves slowly: across the month of births in the example below, it stayed within the first three degrees of Sagittarius. It is tempting to assume that people born that close together share the same Saturn-Uranus dates. They do not, and the example measures by how much:
- Same sign is not the same target. Across 31 invented daily birth samples spanning a month, natal Uranus covered 1.79° of Sagittarius. Where Saturn crossed those targets at its usual pace, matching dates were up to 24 days apart; beside Saturn's turning points, up to 42 days.
- The number of crossings can differ. For five of the eight contacts, some of the 31 births got one crossing and others got three, because one of Saturn's turning points fell between their targets. Where that happened, the first or the last crossing moved by up to about nine months.
- Only an identical target gives identical dates. Uranus came back to the central birth's exact natal value twice in 1982. A birth at either of those moments has the same Saturn-Uranus dates as the central birth, but at a different age.
Uranus is often read as change, independence and the unexpected, and Saturn as structure, limits and long-term effort. A contact between them is one optional lens for reflection. It causes nothing, and two people sharing a date share a calculation, not an experience.
Educational guide only. Astrologist.com has no transit tool: no transit calendar, return chart or timing report. The free birth chart shows natal positions only, and every date below was computed offline for invented people.
The worked example and the comparison set
The people are invented; every position comes from the chart's own code, run offline. The comparison set was fixed before any transit dates were calculated: one central birth, plus the same clock time on each of the 15 local dates either side of it.
- Central birth: 07:50 on 9 December 1981 in Rotterdam. The Netherlands kept Central European Time (UT+1) from late September 1981 to late March 1982, so this is 06:50 UT.
- The set: 31 births, 07:50 Rotterdam time on every date from 24 November to 24 December 1981. No clock change falls in that span, and each date was converted to UT on its own (06:50 UT every time). The date was not chosen to sit near a Uranus turning point, and none falls inside the set. Thirty-one sampled moments are not every birth in that month; they are a sample of it.
- Natal Uranus, central birth: unrounded 241.400925° (1°24'03.3" Sagittarius), moving forward at 0.060° a day. The chart rounds to 0.01° first (241.40°) and then cuts off part-minutes, so it displays 1°24' Sagittarius.
- Natal Uranus across the set: from 240.481300° (0°28' Sagittarius) on 24 November to 242.273547° (2°16' Sagittarius) on 24 December, 1.79° in all. It rose every day, at 0.056° to 0.062° a day, with no turning point and no 0/360° wrap in the set. All 31 displayed minutes are different, so no two dates in the set share a displayed degree and minute.
- Common window: every birth is compared over the same stretch of Saturn's path, from 1 January 2000, 00:00 UT, up to but not including 1 January 2030, 00:00 UT. It starts after the last birth in the set, so every date below comes from one shared Saturn path. For the central birth that is ages 18.06 to 48.06. The window is a choice for this example only.
- Method: Saturn from the astronomia package's VSOP87B planetary theory, as used by the chart, sampled every six hours; crossings pinned down to under thirty seconds and turning points to about a minute. These are calculation tolerances, not accuracy claims. Dates are UT. Ages are years of 365.2425 days, counted from each person's own birth instant.
In the window, Saturn started at 10°24' Taurus moving backward and turned forward on 12 January 2000 at 10°17' Taurus, its lowest point. It then went once round the zodiac to a backward turn on 6 September 2029 at 25°01' Taurus, its highest point, and ended at 18°24' Taurus: 374.73° of path with 58 turning points (stations). Only the stretch from 10°17' to 25°01' Taurus was covered twice, and no target of any birth in the set lies in it, so each birth meets each of its eight points in exactly one group.

D = Saturn moving forward, R = moving backward. Eighteen crossings in eight groups. Successive crossings of one target count as one group while Saturn stays within 30° of it in between; here Saturn never moved more than 6.24° from a target between crossings of the same group. After each group's last crossing Saturn moved more than 30° away before the window closed, and none of the eight groups has a crossing outside the window, so nothing in the table is cut off at either end. A turning point exactly on a target would be a touch, not a crossing; none occurred. The nearest came on 3 May 2008, when Saturn, moving backward, stopped at 1°40' Virgo, 0.28° above the waning square target, and turned forward again; that is why this contact has one crossing here.
The same contacts for 31 neighbouring births
Each birth's crossings were matched to the central birth's by contact and Saturn lap: the same one of the eight points, reached on the same pass of Saturn round the zodiac. Crossing counts were compared before any dates, and dates were compared only between births with the same count. Where counts differ, the first crossing is not compared as if it were the same event; the final forward crossing, which every birth has, is compared instead.
| Contact | Crossings per birth across the set | Spread of matching dates |
|---|---|---|
| Opposition | 3 for 24 Nov to 2 Dec; 1 for 3 to 24 Dec | three-crossing births: 22, 22 and 4 days; single crossing: 10 days; final forward crossing for all 31: 24 Apr to 9 May 2001 |
| Waning trine | 1 for all 31 | 20 Jul to 3 Aug 2005, 14 days |
| Waning square | 1 for 24 Nov to 13 Dec; 3 for 14 to 24 Dec | single: 6 to 15 Sep 2007; three-crossing births: 5, 22 and 21 days, in September 2007, April 2008 and May 2008 |
| Waning sextile | 3 for all 31 | 19, 23 and 19 days |
| Conjunction | 3 for all 31 | 28 Dec 2014 to 15 Jan 2015, 14 May to 7 Jun 2015, 24 Sep to 14 Oct 2015: 19, 24 and 20 days |
| Waxing sextile | 3 for 24 Nov to 18 Dec; 1 for 19 to 24 Dec | three-crossing births: 38, 39 and 13 days; single: 4 to 6 Jan 2021 |

| Waxing trine | 3 for 24 Nov to 18 Dec; 1 for 19 to 24 Dec | three-crossing births: 41, 42 and 12 days; single: 3 to 5 Mar 2026 |
Spreads are first to last across the births listed, rounded to whole days; exact figures are in the calculation record. Every birth in the set ends up with 16, 18 or 20 crossings in the window, so even the total is not shared.
Ordinary pace versus turning points. A spread depends on two things: how far apart the targets being compared are, and how fast Saturn is moving as it passes them. The single waning trine crossing covers the whole set's 1.79° in 14 days, an average of about 0.13° a day, close to Saturn's usual forward speed. The longest spreads come beside turning points, and they cover less of the set, because only the three-crossing births are compared there. For the 2020 waxing sextile and the 2025 waxing trine those births run from 24 November to 18 December, a natal span of 1.45°, and the two crossings nearest each station spread over 38 to 42 days, an average of 0.035° to 0.038° a day. For the 2023 waxing square they run from 25 November to 24 December, a span of 1.73°, and the two crossings nearest the station spread over 40 and 42 days, about 0.042° to 0.043° a day. The longer spreads come from Saturn slowing near its turns, not from a wider range of targets.
Why some counts change. Five of Saturn's turning points in the window sit inside the range the set's targets cover. A target on one side of a turning point is passed, revisited and passed again; a target on the other side is passed once.
| Saturn turning point | At | Contact | Births with 3 crossings | Births with 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backward, 12 Sep 2000 | 0°58' Gemini | Opposition | 24 Nov to 2 Dec | 3 to 24 Dec |
| Forward, 3 May 2008 | 1°40' Virgo | Waning square | 14 to 24 Dec | 24 Nov to 13 Dec |
| Backward, 11 May 2020 | 1°57' Aquarius | Waxing sextile | 24 Nov to 18 Dec | 19 to 24 Dec |
| Forward, 4 Nov 2023 | 0°30' Pisces | Waxing square | 25 Nov to 24 Dec | 24 Nov |
| Backward, 13 Jul 2025 | 1°55' Aries | Waxing trine | 24 Nov to 18 Dec | 19 to 24 Dec |
A backward turn adds crossings to targets just below it, a forward turn to targets just above it. Where the count changes, the first crossing jumps rather than drifts: for the opposition, births up to 2 December first met the point in August or September 2000, and births from 3 December first met it in late April or May 2001; across the whole set the first crossings span 262 days. For the waxing sextile and waxing trine the first crossings span 284 and 278 days, and for the waning square and waxing square the final crossings span 266 and 283 days.
Who shares the exact dates
The 31 births share a sign and a small stretch of it, not a target. Exact dates come only from an exact target. If two natal Uranus values are identical, Saturn's one path crosses them at the same instants in any window both share, whatever the birth dates.
After 9 December 1981 Uranus moved on, turned back, and returned to the central birth's natal value twice: on 24 June 1982 at 14:12 UT, moving backward, and on 22 September 1982 at 14:27 UT, moving forward. A birth at either moment has the same natal Uranus to within 0.03 arc-seconds, and the full search gave the same 18 crossings, each within a minute of the central birth's. Their ages differ: at the first conjunction crossing in January 2015 the central birth is 33.08, while the two 1982 births are 32.54 and 32.29. A birth a day either side of those 1982 moments is already 0.03° to 0.04° away, because Uranus was moving at that rate then, not standing still.
So the honest answer to "who shares my Saturn-Uranus dates?" is: nobody exactly, except births at the moments when Uranus stood on the same degree, and nearby births share them only approximately, with possible differences in how many crossings there are. None of this says that people with shared or similar dates have anything in common beyond that calculation.
If the central birth time were unknown
This is a separate question from the neighbouring births, and it gets its own calculation. The Rotterdam calendar date runs from 23:00 UT on 8 December up to, but not including, 23:00 UT on 9 December 1981. Over that interval natal Uranus rose from 241.381266° to a limiting value of 241.441430° at 24:00, a range of 0.060°, with no turning point or wrap; the last whole minute sampled, 23:59, gives 241.441389°. At the same instants natal Saturn moved by 0.084° and the natal Moon by 15.1°; each trial time takes every natal value from that one instant.
The search was rerun at 145 trial times (every ten minutes from 00:00 to 23:50, plus 23:59). All 145 gave the same crossings, contact by contact and direction by direction, as 07:50. That was checked rather than assumed: the Saturn turning point nearest to the day's target range was the 3 May 2008 forward turn, 0.24° above the day's highest waning square target, and Saturn's positions at the window's start and end were more than 12° from every target in the whole set. Across the sampled times twelve of the eighteen dates moved by 0.47 to 0.81 days, and the six nearest a turning point by 1.11 to 1.49 days. These are spreads at the sampled times, not proven limits for every second of the day.
Entered with no birth time, the chart anchors natal Uranus at noon (241.41°, still displayed as 1°24' Sagittarius here) and shows no houses. That is a reference point, not an estimate of the birth time.
Rounding, and a second ephemeris
The unrounded value, the chart's 0.01° value and the displayed minute are three separate inputs. Here the 0.01° value (241.40°) and the displayed 1°24' give the same number, 0.0009° below the unrounded value. Using it moved the crossings by 0.2 to 0.5 hours, with no change of date or count. Because the chart rounds before it cuts off minutes, a displayed 1°24' Sagittarius can stand for any value from 241.395° up to just under 241.415°; the nearest count-changing level for this birth is more than 0.26° from every value in that range, so the displayed minute is enough here.
The Swiss Ephemeris, a widely used independent ephemeris, was used only as a check. It puts natal Uranus 0.27 arc-seconds below the chart's value. At all 18 crossings, Swiss Saturn sat within 0.35 arc-seconds of the chart's target. Solving each crossing again with Swiss Saturn moved it by at most 0.05 hours against the chart's natal Uranus target, and by at most 0.02 hours against a target built from the Swiss natal Uranus; those solutions are pinned to about thirty seconds. The 58 Saturn turning points in the window agreed with Swiss within 0.32 arc-seconds and 0.02 hours. These are measured differences for this example, not accuracy guarantees.
Possible themes when Saturn contacts Uranus
If you use these at all, weigh them beside natal Uranus's sign, its aspects and, with a dependable birth time, its house. They are questions for reflection, not results:
- Conjunction. How a wish for freedom or change sits beside commitments you have chosen.
- Squares. Structure set against the urge to break from it; often read as a prompt to ask which rules still fit.
- Opposition. Your own pace of change set beside other people's expectations.
- Trines and sextiles. Often seen as quieter times for practical, unhurried change.
These are interpretive patterns, not destiny. Nothing here forecasts or explains any event, and none of it says a transit brings upheaval, accidents, sudden breaks, illness, or any work, money or relationship outcome. Sharing a contact date with someone else does not mean sharing what happens.
For the natal combination, where both planets are fixed in one chart, see Saturn square Uranus (natal) and Saturn conjunct Uranus (natal). Uranus's own cycle against its natal place is in Uranus square Uranus and the Uranus opposition. For Saturn against natal Jupiter, see Saturn transits to natal Jupiter, and for one moving Saturn against two close natal targets, Saturn transits to natal Neptune.
Checking your own chart, or comparing with someone else's
- Read natal Uranus from the free birth chart and write it as one longitude from 0° Aries. Remember the displayed minute stands for a small range, not one exact value. Background on slow planets is in the outer planets.
- Name one window. Following Saturn through it with a Tropical ephemeris, loops included and without resetting at 0° Aries, find its lowest and highest points. Place each of the eight targets at every level, natal Uranus plus the offset plus a whole number of 360° turns, that falls inside that stretch; crossings come in the order the path reaches those levels.
- List each crossing with its direction, and group crossings of one target while Saturn stays within 30° of it in between. A group is finished once Saturn has moved more than 30° past it; mark any group that has not reached that point by the window's end, or that may have started before the window opened.
- To compare with another person, use the same window for both, match groups by contact and by Saturn lap, and compare counts before dates. If the counts differ, a turning point (or the window's start or end) lies between your targets. Compare the final forward crossing rather than "the first one" only where both matched groups actually contain it and both are known to be complete; a group cut off by the window, or one that has no partner at all, is labelled incomplete or unmatched rather than compared.
- If a birth time is unknown, find the full range natal Uranus can take over that date, including any turning point or wrap. For each of the eight offsets, add the offset and each relevant whole number of 360° turns to that whole range, giving one target range per level on Saturn's path. Then check whether any Saturn turning point inside your window, or Saturn's exact level at the window's start or end, falls within any of those target ranges (equivalently, subtract the offset and turns from those Saturn levels and compare with the natal range). If one does, work out the crossings on both sides of it.
About the checks behind these numbers: Uranus and Saturn carry no date limit in the free chart and both use the VSOP87B routine named above. The repository compares each with Swiss at noon on every day from 25 December 1919 to 8 January 2061 and pairs every station. In the runs for this batch, the largest daily difference was 3.70 arc-seconds for Saturn and 3.80 for Uranus, with all 272 Saturn and 278 Uranus stations paired, the worst 0.026 and 0.030 hours off. The test limits are 0.05° (with a tighter 8 arc-second regression check) and 0.055 and 0.065 hours. Those figures compare noon positions and station times; they are not transit-date accuracy figures.
