Neptune Transits to Natal Venus: What a Rounded Degree Changes
Updated October 23, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
A Neptune transit to natal Venus is a period during which Neptune, slowly advancing and looping back once a year, lands on one of eight longitudes derived from your birth Venus: the conjunction, a sextile, square or trine on either side, or the opposition. The Venus degree in your chart is fixed for life; Neptune is the one that travels.
Because Neptune is so slow, a tiny change in the natal degree can move a crossing by many hours. This page measures that effect on a real calculation: what changes when you start from the rounded or the truncated Venus degree instead of the full value, and what does not.
In interpretation, Neptune contacts to Venus are commonly read as a prompt to reflect on values, expectations and boundaries: what you hope for from the people and things you care about, which hopes are realistic, and where a clearer limit would help. That is optional reflection. It forecasts nothing about any relationship, and a chart cannot reveal hidden facts about another person.
Educational guide: you will not find a transit calculator, transit calendar or return chart on the site, and the free birth chart deals with the natal chart alone. Every date below is the output of a single offline calculation for a made-up chart. To date your own, combine your natal Venus with a Tropical ephemeris.
The targets and how Neptune meets them
Natal Venus plus 0°, 60°, 90°, 120°, 180°, 240°, 270° and 300°, less 360° where a total exceeds it, gives the eight targets. The waxing sextile, square and trine are the ones within 180° ahead of Venus, counting in zodiac order; their waning counterparts lie past that point, and each of the six branches counts separately.
Neptune's backward arcs in these decades were about 2.8° long, and the start of each loop moved on about 2.2° a year, so neighbouring arcs overlapped. The scan below found three passes where a target sat inside one arc and five where it sat inside two. Several passes at one target in one run of loops are still one contact. Neptune's period of about 165 years is orientation only and does not say which targets fall inside a window.
Worked example: Leuven, 8 October 1984, 18:50
No real individual is described; the planetary positions were generated offline using the code the free chart runs on.
- Birth record: Leuven, 18:50 on 8 October 1984. Belgium had returned to standard time on 30 September, so local clocks read UT+1 and the birth fell at 17:50 UT. In UT the Leuven calendar day stretched from 23:00 on 7 October to 22:59 on 8 October, and zoneinfo confirms UT+1 throughout.
- Natal Venus: 15°59' Scorpio as displayed, direct, gaining roughly 1.22° each day. Natal Neptune lay at 28°52' Sagittarius, some 43° further on, which forms no major aspect.
- Source code: commit
80a3c3f5. The free chart's planetary routine, astronomia's VSOP87B, supplies both Venus and Neptune as apparent geocentric Tropical longitudes. - Window: birth through 00:00 UT, 31 December 2060. That end was selected for this page and sits within the span over which the repository validates Venus and Neptune (up to 12:00 UT, 8 January 2061). Picking it says nothing about where the method stops or how long anybody lives.
- Method: a Neptune longitude every six hours, crossings narrowed by bisection below thirty seconds, stations fixed to roughly a minute; this is arithmetic, not a claim of precision. Years before and after each group of passes, back to 1920, were inspected for clipping. All dates are UT days.

At the birth Neptune was already about 43° past Venus, so the conjunction lay behind it; by the cutoff Neptune had reached 18°52' Gemini, short of the waning trine. No sequence is clipped at either boundary.
The waxing trine is the five-pass contact. Neptune turned retrograde on 18 June 2018 at 16°29' Pisces, about 0.51° beyond the target, and turned direct on 27 November 2019 at 345.9265°, about 0.059° short of the 345.9853° target. Both the 2018 and the 2019 backward arcs therefore spanned the degree. The last two passes, 13 November and 11 December 2019, sit about two weeks either side of that station, when Neptune was moving only about 0.008° a day.
Three versions of 15°59' Scorpio
On the chart Venus reads 15°59'. With Scorpio starting at 210°, that display corresponds to 210 + 15 + 59/60 = 225.9833°. The model holds 225.9853°, and two-decimal rounding turns that into 225.99°. The three figures differ only in the thousandths, and the chart's minutes are cut off rather than rounded.
| Natal Venus used | Difference from full value | About this much Venus motion | Largest crossing shift | Dates changed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 225.9853° (full) | none | none | none | none |
| 225.99° (rounded) | +0.0047° | 5.5 minutes | 13.6 hours | 3: 23 to 24 Feb 1991; 13 to 12 Nov 2019; 11 to 12 Dec 2019 |
| 225.9833° (truncated) | -0.0020° | 2.4 minutes | 6.0 hours | 1: 2 to 3 Aug 2018 |
In other words, five thousandths of a degree, roughly five minutes of Venus's travel on the birth day, pushed two crossings more than half a day. Both belonged to the slow 2019 passes next to the November station, where Neptune needed about fourteen hours to cover 0.0047°. Crossings well away from a station shifted by three to five hours. Neither alternative value altered any pass count.
What would change the count? The 2019 station is 0.059° below the target. A natal Venus about 0.059° lower, roughly 69 minutes earlier on the clock, would leave the 2019 backward arc short of the target and give three trine passes instead of five. Rounding and truncation are far too small to do that here; a doubtful birth time is not.
Across the birth date
During the local day of 8 October, Venus moved from 15°01' to 16°15' Scorpio (225.0273° to 226.2473°). Venus did not station, so the opening and closing minutes are its limits. Lacking a time, the chart would show the noon value, 15°38' Scorpio, purely as a computed reference; it is not a birth time and implies no houses or angles.
Every Neptune station whose longitude falls in a possible target range was examined, and the birth times between those stations were worked out one stretch at a time. Edges below are approximate, taken from minute-by-minute sampling of the unrounded values, and each agrees with the Swiss Ephemeris result to within half a minute:
- Waxing trine: three passes before about 17:41, five after (the recorded 18:50 is about 69 minutes past that edge).
- Waxing square: five passes before about 07:13, three after.
- Waxing sextile: three passes before about 22:41, five after.
- Opposition: three passes all day.
Values, expectations and boundaries
Pair these with the sign and natal aspects of Venus, adding its house only when the birth time can be relied on. They are optional questions about your own preferences and say nothing about anyone else.
- Conjunction. Which of your ideals about closeness or beauty are yours, and which are borrowed images?
- Squares. Tension between what you hope for and what an arrangement actually offers. A practical step is to say one expectation out loud and check it.
- Opposition. Another person's hopes set beside yours. A chance to ask rather than assume, and to agree on a boundary.
- Trines and sextiles. Frequently associated with an easier flow toward art, music or a gentler rhythm in time spent together.
No contact here points to deception, betrayal, a soulmate, a secret affair, a breakup, money lost, addiction or any relationship outcome. Neptune causes no events, and no chart can show what another person thinks or does. Natal Venus-Neptune aspects are a different matter and last a lifetime: Venus conjunct Neptune (natal) and Venus square Neptune (natal). For the faster Uranus cycle against the same natal point, see Uranus transits to natal Venus.
Your own Venus, step by step
- Take the Venus reading from the free birth chart and express it as a longitude: where the sign begins, then the degrees, then the minutes over 60. Since the display drops the seconds instead of rounding, dates close to a slow planet's stations can move by hours and occasionally by a day.
- Apply all eight offsets, dropping 360 from any total above it.
- Settle on a window. Using a Tropical ephemeris, record each moment Neptune sits exactly on a target within it, plus any Neptune station close to a target. Check a little beyond both window limits and call a group clipped when it runs on past what you can verify.
- If the time is uncertain, find Venus at the two ends of the given interval and at 00:00 and 23:59 on the local birth day, together with any Venus station in between. The result bounds each target but does not settle its pass count. Every Neptune station lying in one of those bounds is a point where the count may change: treat the stretches between them separately and find the birth time at each changeover, as was done for the trine.
Each body has its own validation test. The repository sets Neptune, and in another test Venus, against the Swiss Ephemeris for 12:00 UT on each day between 25 December 1919 and 8 January 2061, 51,516 dates per body, and pairs each station with its Swiss counterpart. Neptune: 280 stations, largest difference 4.3 arc-seconds, worst station timing about 0.05 hours with 0.11 hours allowed. Venus: 176 stations, 2.2 arc-seconds. Passing one test is no evidence for the other. The 1984 birth and all dates in the tables (1991 to 2046) are within those years. Separately, natal Venus came out 0.1 arc-seconds from Swiss, and Neptune sat within 2.1 arc-seconds of the target at every listed crossing, with timing at most about an hour apart near stations. Before 1920 or after 2060, draw both bodies from one outside ephemeris on one time scale.
There is a general walk-through in how to read transits without a transit tool. Ask the Astrologist is happy to discuss natal Venus, or Neptune dates you have looked up yourself, though it does not work out transits.
