Uranus Transits to Natal Venus: A Window Clipped at Its Chosen End
Updated October 23, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
A Uranus transit to natal Venus is a time when moving Uranus reaches one of eight target degrees set by the Venus of your birth chart: the conjunction, the two sextiles, the two squares, the two trines or the opposition. Natal Venus stays where it was. Uranus advances slowly and loops backward for about five months a year, so each target can be crossed once or several times, and the only way to know is to scan the dates.
In interpretation, Venus contacts from Uranus are usually taken as a cue to look at values and preferences, and at the balance between closeness and space: what you now find worth your time, which tastes have changed, and how much room you and the people close to you want inside shared arrangements. That is material for reflection. Nothing in a transit decides what happens in anyone's relationships or life.
Educational guide: Astrologist.com has no transit calculator, transit calendar or return chart, and the free birth chart is natal only. The example dates were worked out offline, once, for an invented chart. For your own dates, set natal Venus against a Tropical ephemeris.
Setting up the targets
Natal Venus in the example is 11°23' Scorpio on the chart. Scorpio begins at 210°, so the displayed degree and minute convert to 210 + 11 + 23/60 = 221.3833°. The model's own value is 221.3887°, which rounds to 221.39° at two decimals. Those are three different numbers: the displayed minutes are truncated, the two-decimal value is rounded, and only the full value was used for the dates below.
| Contact | Offset from Venus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| Conjunction | +0° | 11°23' Scorpio |
| Waxing sextile | +60° | 11°23' Capricorn |
| Waxing square | +90° | 11°23' Aquarius |
| Waxing trine | +120° | 11°23' Pisces |
| Opposition | +180° | 11°23' Taurus |
| Waning trine | +240° | 11°23' Cancer |
| Waning square | +270° | 11°23' Leo |
| Waning sextile | +300° | 11°23' Virgo |
Waxing means Uranus is between 0° and 180° ahead of Venus in zodiac order, waning between 180° and 360°; neither word says whether the contact is closing or separating. The two sextiles, two squares and two trines are distinct contacts. Repeated crossings of one target within one run of loops belong to a single contact, and a station exactly on a target would be a touch rather than a crossing, a limiting case that being near does not reach.
The often-quoted 84-year circuit and seven years per sign are orientation only; seen from Earth the pace varies, and no fixed age or year follows from them. A conjunction to Venus is also not a Uranus return, which compares Uranus with natal Uranus.
Worked example: Bruges, 3 November 1990, 15:05
The person is fictional; the positions come from the free chart's calculation code, run offline.
- Birth record: 3 November 1990, 15:05, Bruges. Belgian summer time had ended on 30 September, so the clocks were on UT+1 and the birth was 14:05 UT. The local date ran from 23:00 UT on 2 November to 22:59 UT on 3 November; Python's time zone database gives UT+1 for every minute of it.
- Natal values: Venus 11°23' Scorpio (221.3887°), moving direct at about 1.25° a day. Natal Uranus 6°37' Capricorn, about 55° ahead of Venus.
- Routines and code: commit
484b0035. Venus and Uranus both come from VSOP87B in the astronomia package, the routine the free chart uses for the planets, as geocentric Tropical longitude on the ecliptic of date. - Calculation window: from the birth to 00:00 UT on 31 December 2060. That end date is a cutoff chosen for this example, inside the repository's Uranus and Venus validation range, which runs to 12:00 UT on 8 January 2061. The cutoff is a choice, not a point where the calculation stops working, and the window is a calculation range, not a statement about any lifetime.
- Procedure: Uranus sampled at 6-hour steps, crossings bisected below half a minute and stations pinned to about a minute, as bookkeeping rather than a precision claim. For each target the scan also inspected the years either side of each group of passes, back to 1920, to see whether the window cut a group. Dates are UT days.
Dates found, and the one that is cut off
| Contact | Result | Exact dates (UT) |
|---|---|---|
| Waxing sextile | crossings found in this window | 29 Jan 1991, 15 Jul 1991, 20 Nov 1991 |
| Waxing square | crossings found in this window | 20 Mar 1998, 18 Jul 1998, 9 Jan 1999 |
| Waxing trine | crossings found in this window | 13 Mar 2006, 13 Oct 2006, 27 Dec 2006 |
| Opposition | crossings found in this window | 13 May 2021, 12 Dec 2021, 24 Feb 2022 |
| Waning trine | crossings found in this window | 13 Jul 2035, 17 Feb 2036, 17 Apr 2036 |
| Waning square | crossings found in this window | 22 Sep 2041, 14 Jan 2042, 8 Jul 2042 |
| Waning sextile | crossings found in this window | 31 Aug 2048 (one crossing) |
| Conjunction | sequence clipped at boundary | 18 Dec 2060 (one crossing found; what follows lies past the window) |
The start of the window. At the birth Uranus was already within 6° of the waxing sextile degree, so the 6° comparison band, used here only as a yardstick, was in progress when the window opened. The exact sequence was not cut, though. Earlier in 1990 Uranus had turned retrograde on 13 April at 9°35' Capricorn, about 1.8° short of the target, so there was no earlier pass, and all three passes fall after the birth.
The end of the window. Uranus crossed the conjunction degree moving direct on 18 December 2060. When the window closed at 00:00 UT on 31 December 2060 it was still inside the 8° comparison band, still moving direct and about 0.55° past the degree. A further check to the end of the validation range, 12:00 UT on 8 January 2061, found no Uranus station after the crossing; by then Uranus was about 0.87° past the degree. Whether Uranus later turns back over 11°23' Scorpio lies beyond the validated evidence used here, so this contact is reported as one crossing found and a sequence clipped at the boundary, with no assumption about what follows. Anyone wanting the rest of it would need a single external ephemeris covering 2061, used consistently for Venus and Uranus.
The waning sextile has one crossing for a different reason. Uranus turned retrograde on 16 December 2047 at 11°10' Virgo, about 0.21° short of the target, crossed it once moving direct, and at its next direct station, 19 May 2049 at 11°48' Virgo, it was 0.42° past the target and did not come back. A single crossing is a complete answer; it is not a weaker contact.
The same window also holds Uranus's own squares to natal Uranus (2012 to 2013) and its opposition to natal Uranus (2034 to 2035); see Uranus square Uranus. Those dates belong to a different target and are not Venus contacts.
Three versions of one degree
How much does it matter whether you start from 221.3887°, 221.39° or 221.3833°? For Venus the difference between the full and truncated values, 0.0054°, is about six minutes of Venus's motion on that day.
- With 221.39° (rounded), every crossing moved by less than about 1.2 hours and every date stayed the same.
- With 221.3833° (from the truncated minutes), crossings moved by up to about 5 hours, and three dates changed by a day: 20 to 19 March 1998, 9 to 8 January 1999 and 24 to 23 February 2022.
- No count changed with either value.
Dates near a station are the most sensitive, because Uranus is barely moving there: a few hours of shift in a crossing came from 0.0054° in the natal value, a few thousandths of a degree.
Birth time: a stated interval, then the whole day
Suppose the 15:05 was written down from memory and could be half an hour out either way, a scenario chosen here for illustration. Across 14:35 to 15:35 Venus moved from 11°21' to 11°24' Scorpio. No count changed, and the exact dates at the two ends of the interval differed by at most two days (the 2060 conjunction falls on 17 December for 14:35 and 19 December for 15:35, for instance).
The whole local date is a wider question. Venus ran from 10°36' to 11°51' Scorpio, with no station that day, so the first and last minutes are the extremes; the noon reference the chart uses without a time is 11°13' Scorpio, an arithmetic stand-in and not a birth time. Four counts depend on where in that range Venus fell. Edges are approximate, from per-minute sampling of the unrounded model, and a time near one would need a finer calculation with confirmed conventions:
- Waning sextile: three passes before about 11:01, one pass from about 11:01 to about 23:07 (including the recorded time and noon), three passes after.
- Waning trine: one pass before about 07:22, three after.
- Opposition: one pass between about 01:45 and 04:10, three otherwise.
- Waxing trine: one pass between about 03:09 and 04:00, three otherwise.
The stated half-hour interval is hours away from all of these edges, which is why its counts are settled in this model. No houses or angles can be inferred from any of it.
Values, preferences, closeness and space
Read these alongside Venus's sign and natal aspects, and its house only with a dependable time. They are prompts, not outcomes and not assessments of anyone's character or relationships.
- Conjunction. Which values you now hold because you chose them, and which tastes you have outgrown. A time some people use to make room for a new interest.
- Squares. Tension between closeness and independence in a shared arrangement. Often read as a cue to talk about how much space each person wants rather than to decide anything alone.
- Opposition. Another person's preferences set against yours; an occasion to say what you value and to hear what they do.
- Trines and sextiles. Commonly described as easier openings to try a different way of spending time together or apart.
None of these contacts signals a breakup, infidelity, a new relationship, a change in sexual orientation, a financial gain or loss, or anything required of you. Uranus does not cause these things, and a hard aspect does not show that a relationship is failing any more than an easy one shows it is sound. Natal Venus-Uranus aspects are a separate lifelong feature: Venus conjunct Uranus (natal) and Venus square Uranus (natal). Other planets' cycles to Venus: Saturn transits to natal Venus and Jupiter transits to natal Venus.
Doing it for your own Venus
- Read Venus's degree and minute from the free birth chart and convert to a longitude (sign start plus degrees plus minutes/60). Remember the display truncates minutes.
- Add 0, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 270 and 300, wrapping at 360.
- Choose and write down a window. In a Tropical ephemeris list every Uranus crossing of each target inside it and every Uranus station near a target. Check the time just outside both ends: if a group of passes continues past an end you cannot check, label it clipped.
- For an uncertain time, recompute Venus at the ends of your stated interval and at the first and last minute of the local date, and include any Venus station that falls inside them; that sets the possible range for each target. The end charts do not settle the pass counts in between: note every Uranus station whose longitude lies inside a possible target range, calculate each resulting stretch separately and refine the birth time at each boundary, as the opposition and waxing trine examples above show.
Coverage is per routine. The repository's Swiss Ephemeris tests compare Uranus and, separately, Venus with the Swiss Ephemeris at 12:00 UT every day from 25 December 1919 to 8 January 2061, and match every station in that range (Uranus largest longitude difference 3.8 arc-seconds, Venus 2.2). The Uranus test does not stand in for the Venus one, or for the Sun and Moon routines. This birth (1990) and all listed dates (1991 to 2060) lie inside that range, and so does the clipped conjunction's crossing on 18 December 2060; the clipping comes from the chosen cutoff and the end of the validation range, not from the calculations becoming unavailable. In an independent check, natal Venus agreed with Swiss to 0.2 arc-seconds and Uranus at each listed crossing to within 1.4 arc-seconds. Outside 1920 to 2060, use one external ephemeris for both bodies, apparent geocentric Tropical longitude, one time standard. Chiron and Pluto date limits in the free chart apply only to those bodies.
The full workflow is in how to read transits without a transit tool. Ask the Astrologist can discuss natal Venus or Uranus dates you have looked up; it does not compute transits.
