Jupiter Transits to Natal Neptune: Your Point, Not the Sky Conjunction
Updated October 27, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Jupiter transits to natal Neptune are the moments when moving Jupiter stands exactly 0°, 60°, 90°, 120° or 180° from the degree Neptune held at your birth, counted on both sides of the circle, so eight points in all. That natal degree is fixed. It was set at one instant and does not move afterwards.
A Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in the sky is something else: moving Jupiter catching up with moving Neptune. It happens about every thirteen years, wherever Neptune happens to be at the time, and it is the same event for everyone. The two are easy to blur because both get called "Jupiter conjunct Neptune". This page keeps them apart, using one invented birth and one window, 2000 to 2061:
- The personal conjunction came every twelve years, always at the same degree. Jupiter crossed this person's natal Neptune at 9°57' Capricorn five times, once per lap, 11.95 to 11.96 years apart.
- The sky conjunctions came every 12.3 to 13.0 years, at a different degree each time. Five sky conjunctions fell in the window, 44° to 159° beyond the natal Neptune, because the Neptune in the sky keeps moving after the birth and the natal one does not.
- None of them landed on the natal point. The nearest personal conjunction came 1.32 years before the 2009 sky conjunction, and the gap grew with every cycle after that, to 4.58 years by 2060.
Neptune is often read as imagination, ideals and blurred edges, and Jupiter as growth, belief and the wish for meaning. A Jupiter contact to natal Neptune is one optional lens for reflection. It causes nothing and predicts nothing, and a sky conjunction is not a personal transit unless it falls on your own natal degree.
Educational guide only. Astrologist.com has no transit tool: no transit calendar, return chart or timing report. The free birth chart shows natal positions only, and every date below was computed offline for an invented person.
The birth, the fixed target and the window
The birth is reused unchanged from Saturn transits to natal Neptune, where it was chosen for a different reason. Reusing it means the birth was fixed before any Jupiter date was calculated, and that page can be read as the same natal Neptune met by a slower planet. Everything here was recalculated at code commit 54165fbc, and the natal values came out identical.
- Birth: 10:20 on 15 August 1989 in Antwerp, an invented person. Belgian summer time (UT+2) applied, so this is 08:20 UT.
- Natal Neptune: unrounded 279.960913° (9°57'39.3" Capricorn), moving backward at 0.018° a day. The chart stores 279.96° and displays 9°57' Capricorn. Only this one value is used as the target from here on.
- Window: from 1 January 2000, 00:00 UT, up to but not including 1 January 2061, 00:00 UT; ages 10.38 to 71.38. The window is a choice for this example only.
- Method: Jupiter and Neptune both come from the astronomia package's VSOP87B planetary theory, as used by the chart, with Universal Time converted to the ephemeris time scale exactly as the chart does it. Jupiter was sampled every six hours, crossings narrowed to under thirty seconds and turning points to about a minute; these are calculation tolerances, not accuracy claims. Dates are UT, and dates after October 2026 are model projections from the same routines, not forecasts.
Grouping. A visit, or group, is the set of crossings of one target made while Jupiter stays within 30° of it. It is complete when Jupiter is more than 30° away before the first crossing and after the last. A turning point exactly on a target would be a touch, not a crossing, and would be listed separately.
Series 1: moving Jupiter against the fixed natal Neptune
Over the window Jupiter starts at 25°13' Aries moving forward, its lowest point, and reaches its highest at 5°56' Cancer, where it turns backward on 23 October 2060; it ends at 29°31' Gemini. That is 1,870.70° of path, five full laps plus 70.70°, with 111 turning points. Longitudes from 25°13' Aries to 5°56' Cancer are passed on six laps and the rest on five, so the waxing trine target in Taurus gets six visits and the other seven targets get five.

In total: 41 visits and 61 crossings, 31 visits with a single forward crossing and 10 with three (forward, backward, forward), whose first-to-last spans ran 214.3 to 235.6 days. Every single crossing was made moving forward.
All five conjunction visits were single crossings, at ages 18.46, 30.42, 42.37, 54.33 and 66.29, each 11.95 or 11.96 years after the one before. That regular spacing belongs to the natal point: Jupiter comes back to the same fixed degree once per lap.
Forty visits are complete inside the window. The first waxing trine visit, a single crossing on 4 April 2000, is not cut off, but Jupiter's approach from more than 30° away happened before the window opened (on 27 March 1999), so that check relies on a date outside the window. The nearest any turning point came to a target was a backward turn on 30 August 2011 at 10°21' Taurus, 0.39° past the waxing trine point, inside the 2011 to 2012 visit; no turning point sat on a target, so there are no touches. At the window's start Jupiter was 14.73° from the nearest target and at the end 10.44°.
Series 2: the sky's own Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions
This series does not use the birth at all. It was computed with the same chart routines: at every instant, Jupiter's longitude was compared with Neptune's longitude at that same instant, and a sky conjunction is any moment the difference passes through zero. Crossings were narrowed to under thirty seconds, and grouped the same way as above, while the two planets stayed within 30° of each other. No dates were taken from outside sources.
| Sky conjunction group | Crossings, with the shared longitude | Natal Neptune to that longitude |
|---|---|---|
| 2009 | 27 May at 26°28' Aquarius; 10 Jul at 26°01' Aquarius (Jupiter moving back past Neptune); 21 Dec at 24°17' Aquarius | 44.33° to 46.52° |
| 2022 | 12 Apr at 23°58' Pisces | 74.02° |
| 2035 | 24 Mar at 21°21' Aries | 101.39° |
| 2047 to 2048 | 22 Jul 2047 at 21°19' Taurus; 16 Nov 2047 at 20°05' Taurus (moving back); 24 Feb 2048 at 19°00' Taurus | 129.05° to 131.36° |
| 2060 | 27 Jun at 18°59' Gemini | 159.04° |
That is 9 crossings in 5 groups. Four groups are complete inside the window. The 2060 crossing is inside it, but the two planets only got more than 30° apart again on 29 July 2061, after the window ends, so its closure is a supplementary check outside the window. The first crossings of successive groups were 12.88, 12.95, 12.33 and 12.93 years apart. Outside the window, for context only: the sky conjunction before 2009 was on 9 January 1997 at 27°08' Capricorn, when this person was 7.40, and even that one was 17.18° from the natal Neptune.
The third column is simply how far the Neptune in the sky had moved since the birth. Neptune advances about two degrees a year on average, so each sky conjunction lands further beyond the natal point than the last. Jupiter, meanwhile, keeps returning to that natal point on a twelve-year rhythm. One series stays put and the other drifts away.
Comparing the two series
The comparison rule was fixed before any dates were set side by side: each sky conjunction group is compared with the natal-Neptune conjunction visit whose first crossing is nearest in time. The groups are not paired as "the same event", and neither series is used to date the other.
| Sky group (first crossing) | Nearest natal-Neptune conjunction | Gap |
|---|---|---|
| 27 May 2009 | 1 Feb 2008 | 1.32 years |
| 12 Apr 2022 | 15 Jan 2020 | 2.24 years |
| 24 Mar 2035 | 30 Dec 2031 | 3.23 years |
| 22 Jul 2047 | 14 Dec 2043 | 3.60 years |
| 27 Jun 2060 | 27 Nov 2055 | 4.58 years |
Looked at from the other side, at each of this person's natal-Neptune conjunctions the Neptune in the sky was 41.38° (2008), 66.63° (2020), 92.87° (2031), 120.21° (2043) and 148.31° (2055) ahead of Jupiter. So none of the personal conjunctions was a sky conjunction, and none of the sky conjunctions was a personal one.
Close in time is not the same contact. Three sky conjunctions happened within two months of one of this person's other Jupiter-to-Neptune crossings: the 2022 sky conjunction came 59 days after Jupiter crossed the waxing sextile point on 12 February 2022, the 2035 one 54 days after a waxing square crossing on 29 January 2035, and the 2047 one 58 days after a waxing trine crossing on 25 May 2047. In each case the sky conjunction degree lay 11° to 14° beyond that natal target. They are separate events that happen to be near each other on the calendar.
When would they coincide? A sky conjunction falls on your personal natal-Neptune conjunction only if your natal Neptune lies at, or very close to, the degree where that sky conjunction happens. Because Neptune moves slowly, that points to births from the years when Neptune itself stood near that degree. For this 1989 birth the sky Neptune had already moved more than 40° on by 2009, so no sky conjunction in the window comes near the personal one.
If the birth time were unknown
The Antwerp calendar date runs from 22:00 UT on 14 August up to, but not including, 22:00 UT on 15 August 1989. Over that whole interval natal Neptune fell from 279.968713° to a limiting value of 279.950704° at 24:00, a range of 0.018°, with no turning point and no wrap; the last whole minute, 23:59, gives 279.950717°.
Every Jupiter turning point in the window, and Jupiter's positions at the window's start and end, were compared with that whole range shifted by each of the eight offsets and every 360° turn. The nearest was the backward turn of 30 August 2011, whose level lies 0.39° outside the range; the window edges lie 14.72° and 10.43° outside it. No turning point or edge falls inside, so no birth time on that date changes any count.
Separately, the search was rerun at 145 sampled times (every ten minutes from 00:00 to 23:50 local time, plus 23:59). All 145 gave the same visits and directions, and the dates moved by 0.07 to 0.36 days, most around the 2011 visit near the turning point. Those are spreads at the sampled times, not proven limits. The sky series does not depend on the birth, so it is the same for every time of day. Entered with no birth time, the chart anchors natal Neptune at noon and shows no houses.
Rounding, and a second ephemeris
Using the stored 279.96° instead of the unrounded value moved the crossings by 0.09 to 0.43 hours, with no change of date or count. The displayed 9°57' Capricorn, read back as 279.95°, is 0.011° lower; with it the crossings moved by 1.08 to 5.16 hours, five crossings changed UT date by one day, and no count changed. A displayed 9°57' Capricorn can stand for any value from 279.945° up to just under 279.962°; the nearest count-changing level is 0.39° from every value in that range.
The Swiss Ephemeris, a widely used independent ephemeris, was used only as a check, never to produce the page's numbers. It puts natal Neptune 0.40 arc-seconds below the chart's value. At all 61 crossings, Swiss Jupiter sat within 0.74 arc-seconds of the chart's target; solving each crossing again with Swiss Jupiter moved it by at most 0.038 hours against the chart's target and 0.032 hours against a target built from the Swiss natal Neptune. The 111 turning points agreed within 0.53 arc-seconds and 0.018 hours. Solving the in-window sky conjunctions again with Swiss Jupiter and Swiss Neptune moved them by at most 0.108 hours. These are measured differences for this example, not accuracy guarantees.
Possible themes when Jupiter contacts natal Neptune
If you use these at all, weigh them beside natal Neptune's sign, its aspects and, with a dependable birth time, its house. They are questions for reflection, not results:
- Conjunction. Where ideals, imagination or a sense of meaning could be given more room, and where enthusiasm may run ahead of the details.
- Squares. Hopes set against what is practical; often read as a prompt to check plans against facts.
- Opposition. Your own ideals set beside other people's, or beside what others expect.
- Trines and sextiles. Often seen as easier times for creative or reflective work in a measured way.
These are interpretive patterns, not destiny. Nothing here forecasts or explains any event, and none of it says a transit brings luck, insight, confusion, loss, or any work, money, health or relationship outcome. A sky conjunction carries no extra personal meaning for this birth.
For the natal combination, where both planets are fixed in one chart, see Jupiter conjunct Neptune (natal), Jupiter square Neptune (natal) and Jupiter opposite Neptune (natal). For the reverse direction, moving Neptune against a fixed natal Jupiter, see Neptune transits to natal Jupiter. Jupiter's cycle against its own natal place is in the Jupiter return, and the next guide, Jupiter transits to natal Pluto, places Jupiter's contacts to another slow natal point inside that same cycle. Another fixed natal point visited over several Jupiter laps is in Jupiter transits to natal Uranus.
Working it out for your own chart
- Read natal Neptune from the free birth chart and write it as one longitude from 0° Aries. A displayed minute stands for a small range, not one exact value.
- Choose a window. In a Tropical ephemeris, follow Jupiter through it, loops included and without resetting at 0° Aries, and note its lowest and highest points. Place the eight targets, natal Neptune plus each offset plus whole 360° turns, inside that stretch.
- List every crossing with its direction and group crossings of one target while Jupiter stays within 30° of it. Mark any visit that began before the window or has not closed by its end.
- If you also look up sky Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions, keep them in a separate list. Write down the degree of each one and compare it with your natal Neptune. If the two degrees differ, the sky event is not a contact to your natal Neptune; it is a separate event that may or may not fall near one of your own crossings.
- If the birth time is unknown, take natal Neptune over the whole birth date, shift that range by each offset and 360° turn, and check whether any Jupiter turning point inside the window, or Jupiter's position at the window's start or end, falls inside it.
About the checks behind these numbers: Jupiter and Neptune carry no date limit in the free chart. The repository compares each with Swiss at noon on every day from 25 December 1919 to 8 January 2061 and pairs every station. In the runs for this batch the largest daily differences were 3.78 arc-seconds for Jupiter and 4.27 for Neptune; all 258 Jupiter and 280 Neptune stations were paired, the worst 0.013 and 0.054 hours off. The test limits are 0.05° (with a tighter 8 arc-second regression check) and 0.03 and 0.11 hours. Those compare noon positions and station times; they are not transit-date accuracy figures. None of that coverage turns a projected date into a prediction.
