Uranus Trine Chiron: Easy Openings for Change and Repair
Updated October 17, 2026 · Astrologist.com Editorial
Uranus trine Chiron means the two were 112° to 128° apart at birth, about a third of the zodiac. Astrologers associate Uranus with change, freedom, invention and the sudden shift in view, and Chiron with the sensitive place that can, given time, become a source of insight. The trine is the easy, flowing angle, so the usual reading is that new ideas and an old hurt can work together without much friction: change tends to help the healing instead of reopening it.
In 1920 to 2060 the trine is exact in two runs, in 1945 and 1946 and again in 1994 and 1995, each time while Chiron was racing through its fast signs near the Sun. The trine returns in orb from 2057 to 2060, so births of those years have it too, but it does not perfect to exact within the calculator's range. Each run is therefore the mark of a few years of births, and the personal reading leans on houses (with a known birth time) and on the personal planets that touch the pair.
How the trine is often described
Change that soothes. New surroundings, new tools or a new circle of people may feel like relief rather than threat, and some astrologers read this as an easier relationship with upheaval than most.
An intuitive feel for unusual remedies. The trine is often linked with openness to unconventional approaches to wellbeing, learning or self-understanding.
Freedom with sensitivity. Independence and care for the tender place need not compete here. A person may be able to stand apart from the crowd without hardening.
The easy path can be skipped. As with many trines, the gift may go unused because nothing forces it. The shadow side is assuming that change alone fixes things, without doing the slower work.
These descriptions are tendencies to explore. A chart shows a pattern of possibilities, not what any person felt or did.
Two exact trine runs, one element each time
The figures come from 51,501 Greenwich noon charts, one per date from 1920 through 2060, the years for which the calculator includes Chiron. Uranus was trine Chiron on 1,337 of them, 2.60%, about one date in 39, spread across three runs, two of them with exact passes:
- 18 December 1944 to 4 November 1946: 478 dates in orb, every one with Uranus in Gemini and Chiron in Libra, a trine in air. Three exact passes, all in the main window of 3 October 1945 to 4 November 1946.
- 7 September 1994 to 27 July 1996: 437 dates in orb, three exact passes. On 280 of them Uranus was in Capricorn and Chiron in Virgo, a trine in earth; a further 126, in the spring and summer of 1996, had Uranus in Aquarius and Chiron in Libra, without coming closer than 3.53°.
- 28 April 2057 to 21 August 2060: 422 dates in four short windows, each between April and August, with Uranus in Libra or Scorpio and Chiron in Aquarius. The closest is 4.99°, on 20 June 2060. The sample ends before an exact pass.
Out-of-sign trines made up 15.2% of trine dates, most of them in the 2057 to 2060 run.
1945 and 1946: air, with Jupiter on Chiron
These were the years Jupiter travelled with Chiron through Libra: on 459 of the 478 trine dates Jupiter was conjunct Chiron as well, and on 235 it also trined Uranus. On 126 dates Neptune, also in Libra, was conjunct Chiron. At London noon:
- 20 November 1945: Uranus at 16°09' Gemini, retrograde, Chiron at 16°07' Libra (0.03°), Jupiter at 18°15' Libra conjunct Chiron (2.14°) and trine Uranus (2.11°).
- 10 May 1946: Uranus at 15°51' Gemini, Chiron at 15°54' Libra, retrograde (0.04°), with Jupiter retrograde at 19°15' Libra.
- 12 September 1946: both direct, Uranus at 21°41' Gemini and Chiron at 21°44' Libra (0.05°). Mars at 21°49' Libra sat on Chiron (0.09°) and trined Uranus (0.14°).
Gemini is ruled by Mercury and Libra by Venus. Jupiter conjunct Chiron follows the Jupiter side of these years, and Chiron in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius covers the Chiron placement.
1994 and 1995: earth, with Neptune on Uranus
The second trine came during the long Uranus-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn: Uranus was conjunct Neptune on all 437 trine dates of the run, and Neptune trined Chiron on 286 of them. At London noon:
- 10 November 1994: Uranus at 23°02' Capricorn and Chiron at 23°00' Virgo, both direct (0.03°). Neptune at 20°59' Capricorn trined Chiron (2.02°), and Jupiter at 23°37' Scorpio sextiled both Uranus and Chiron (about 0.6°).
- 16 January 1995: the Sun at 25°52' Capricorn was conjunct Uranus at 26°22' (0.50°) and trine Chiron at 26°24' Virgo, retrograde (0.53°).
- 21 August 1995: Uranus at 27°20' Capricorn, retrograde, and Chiron at 27°20' Virgo, exact. Pluto at 27°51' Scorpio sextiled both (0.52°), and Saturn at 23°06' Pisces, retrograde, opposed Chiron (4.23°).
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, Virgo by Mercury. Scorpio, where Jupiter and Pluto stood in these charts, has Pluto as its modern ruler and Mars as its traditional ruler. Uranus in Capricorn describes the generation, and Chiron in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn the Chiron.
Retrograde on a trine
Uranus was retrograde on 55.7% of trine dates, more than its 40.9% over all dates. The share is raised in every run, and most of all in 2057 to 2060 (70.9%), where the windows open only around its retrograde season. The R markers pull against each other: Chiron was retrograde on 31.4% of the Uranus-retrograde trine dates and on 64.4% of the Uranus-direct ones. Both carried an R on 17.5% of trine dates, and in the sample that happened only with the Sun within 20.6° of the point opposite the middle of the pair. Uranus alone was retrograde on 38.2%, Chiron alone on 28.5% and neither on 15.8%.
Timing, worked from the birth positions
The calculator does not compute transits, but for people born on the six exact pass dates the noon sample shows when each body later reaches the other's birth place. For the 1945 and 1946 births, transiting Uranus reached natal Chiron at ages 25.5 to 26.2, and transiting Chiron reached natal Uranus at 40.1 to 40.7. For the 1994 and 1995 births the order is reversed: transiting Chiron came to natal Uranus at 9.3 to 10.0, and transiting Uranus reaches natal Chiron only at 55.9 to 56.7, in 2050 and 2051.
Finding it on your chart
On the free birth chart a trine is a solid blue line; between ♅ and ⚷ it crosses about a third of the wheel. The planet table should show the two 112° to 128° apart. Births before 1920 or after 2060 have no Chiron on the chart, so the line is not drawn.
Without a birth time, the chart uses local noon for both as a calculation reference, never as a stated birth time. The angle between them changes by at most 0.18° a day, so the hour could only matter on about 0.8% of trine dates (an estimate from interpolating between noon charts).
